CONTEXT

CARE is one of the largest humanitarian aid networks in the world, apolitical and non-denominational that supports and manages emergency and development projects by involving communities, collaborating with local partners. Our objective is to fight against all forms of poverty, to defend access to fundamental rights, to combat social injustice. Supporting women’s empowerment and acting for their rights are essential actions in the fight against poverty, which is why women are at the heart of our programs. CARE is present in 100 countries and through the implementation of nearly 1000 emergency and development projects.

 

 




 

In Cameroon since 1978, CARE develops and implements 3 action programs (broken down into several projects) in response to humanitarian crises and support for sustainable development. They are part of the phases of emergency, resilience of women and young people, access to sexual health and reproduction of the populations most at risk, including PLHIV.

The geographic presence and activities of CARE International in Cameroon have been expanded since the beginning of 2023 with the opening of new offices. The positioning of CCMR as a Principal Recipient (PR) within the framework of the HIV/TB community grant of the NFM3 funding expands our presence throughout the National territory. To this end, CARE is looking for:

Position  : Seven (07) Drivers

Division:  Logistics

Contract form:  six (06) month fixed-term contract with possibility of renewal (trial period included)

Working time: 40 hours per week (Full time)

Reporting line:  Logistics Manager – Project  

Location of the position:  Yaoundé, Douala, and Garoua (position not relocated)

 

 

 

Assignment :

The Driver is responsible for ensuring the transport of people and goods in compliance with the rules of the art and CARE International procedures.

Function : 

Function 1  : Security of Persons and Property of CARE International

  • Keeps informed of the security situation of the project activity area and the region in which it is located and transmits this information to his hierarchy.
  • Reports any incident internal or external to the base to his direct superior.
  • Ensures the transport of CARE International staff in compliance with the highway code in force and CI’s internal rules.
  • Ensures the safety of passengers and goods by adopting responsible driving adapted to driving conditions.
  • Respect the speed limits: 30 km/h in town and inhabited area, 50 km/h on track in poor condition and 80 km/h on track in good condition.
  • Ensure that all passengers fasten their seat belts.
  • Make sure to have all the documents: license, insurance, report document, logbook, mission order for the passengers as well, and any other documents that his hierarchy imposes on him.
  • Take care not to endanger other road users.
  • Does not communicate on his personal phone while travelling.
  • In the event of an accident, immediately notify the log manager and the local authorities

 

 

Function 2  : Technical and administrative monitoring of the vehicle

  • Reports all the data relating to the use of his vehicle in the logbook.
  • Ensure that the tank is always at least half full.
  • Reports any breakdowns or malfunctions on his vehicle to his hierarchy, and reports it on the logbook.
  • Ensures the interior and exterior cleanliness of his vehicle and particularly that of the logos allowing it to be identified as a CI vehicle.
  • Ensures the maintenance of his vehicle, in particular by assisting the mechanics during all repairs. Indicates when revisions are needed.
  • Ensure that the equipment of his vehicle is present, if necessary report it to the logistics department.
  • Always park your vehicle in the start position.
  • Makes a good transfer of the vehicle to the driver who replaces it during any absence or change of the driver
  • He must be able to justify his fuel consumption at any time
  • Takes a weekly physical inventory of vehicle equipment
  • Regularly checks the good condition of his equipment (spare wheel, jack, strap, ropes, battery communication cable
  • Leave the keys in the defined place after his service.
  • Ensures the proper use and maintenance of the vehicle assigned to him
  • He is responsible for managing the fuel and the tools assigned to him
  • He ensures the transmission and reception of mail

Function 3  : Movement tracking (authorized persons, radio / telecommunications)

  • Performs any task requiring the movement of a vehicle and only at the express request of the supervisory staff.
  • Carries CI personnel only, unless otherwise directed by management.
  • Transports only CI equipment, except when an exemption has been granted by his hierarchy.
  • Ensures good stowage and protection of the transported goods.
  • Makes regular radio / telephone contact when traveling and remains permanently contactable as long as he is outside a CI base.
  • Adheres to CI communication codes and procedures.
  • Remains close to his vehicle when he is waiting.
  • Help loading and unloading your vehicle.
  • Checks during any trip that the arrival can take place before 5:00 p.m. on a base or the place of destination.
  • Notifies his superiors immediately in the event of an accident, even slight.
  • Respect established procedures when approaching a checkpoint/control.

Function 4  : Other tasks

  • Check the expiry dates of the molecules in the medicine box.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum CEPE/CEP level required
  • Experience of at least 2 years in an international NGO would be an asset
  • Have a valid driver’s license and no driving history, with no traffic violations
  • Good visual acuity
  • Accustomed to GPS devices
  • Knowledge of the roads and neighborhoods of the regions and the country
  • Ability to lift heavy packages and luggage
  • Availability to take occasional night and weekend shifts
