For our National Office in Cameroon, we are looking for a dynamic and
committed Landscape Advisor.

Duration: Two (02) years
Mission of the department
In pursuit of its vision of a future with healthy ecosystems and flourishing biodiversity
supporting populations and stimulating sustainable development in Cameroon, WWF Cameroon (WWF
CCO) has entered into a partnership with the Sustainable Natural Resources Management Program –
South West Region (PSMNR-SWR). The partnership is currently in its fifth phase, covering the period
from September 15, 2023 to December 2025. The objective of the program is to contribute to the preservation
of high-value ecosystems in the South West region, thereby contributing to the improvement livelihoods
of surrounding communities in a sustainable manner. The objective is the sustainable management
of forests and wildlife by relevant stakeholders for their benefit, with
particular emphasis on the poorest segments of local populations.
Generally speaking, phase V of the PSMNR-SWR was established to achieve the
following objectives:

 

 

 Consolidate and develop the achievements and lessons learned from the collaborative management of
protected areas (ZP) initiated in the previous phases .
 Manage the UNESCO MAB transboundary biosphere reserves in the
Korup-Oban and Takamanda-Okwango regions.
 Establish sustainable financing mechanisms, with a focus on
locally negotiated land use plans along wildlife corridors and
peripheral areas of protected areas, which will serve as a benchmark for payment for
ecosystem services based on the land.
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cameroon is recruiting a Landscape AdvisorMain Functions
 Support the WWF Coastal Forests Program Manager in the conceptualization, planning
, implementation, reporting and monitoring of WWF interventions within the framework
of the PSMNR;
 Lead the consolidation and capitalization of achievements and lessons from the
collaborative protected area management approach;
 Proactively support the design and implementation of the landscape approach and management
of the Korup-Oban Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, as well as the establishment
of a land-based payment for ecosystem services ;
 In close collaboration with the “Coastal Forests Program (CFP) Manager” of the WWF CCO,
work with regional authorities, conservation partners and projects in the
South West region to maintain the region’s biodiversity and contribute to
poverty reduction;
 Support the Korup-Ndongere ToU and supervise the work of the landscape managers of Mount
Cameroon, Bakossi-Banyang-Mbo and Korup-Ndongere,
 Advise the WWF coastal forests program manager on
relevant issues in the ToU Korup-Ndongere region. South West and provide essential information for the
supervision, review and evaluation of the PSMNR.
Main tasks and responsibilities
 Contribute to the management of larger conservation areas;
 Contribute to the mitigation of conflicts linked to land use around protected areas;
 Support participatory management of important corridors for fauna and flora;
 Support the integrated management of the protected area network and cross-border collaboration;
 Support the institutionalization of the collaborative protected area management approach and its
integration into legal planning processes (protected area management plans,
council development plans, land use plans);
 Contribute to building the capacities of stakeholders in the co-management process;
 Support the implementation of collaborative management activities specific to a group of
protected areas;
 Contribute to the PSMNR’s conservation education approach;
 Contribute to the engagement of hunters in the implementation of targeted interventions for the benefit
of communities and groups that have a strong impact on protected areas (outcome 3.5);
 Contribute to the development of cooperatives/businesses for agricultural and forestry producers
;
 Support the sustainable management of NTFPs by local communities within protected areas;
 Support the identification and mitigation of human-wildlife conflicts;
 Contribute to capacity building of protected area staff;
 Develop key research projects to address priority issues in
wildlife and habitat conservation;
 Support the development/revision of protected area and landscape management plans;
 Support the development of AFD for protected areas and landscape management;
 Recommend and put in place a complaints mechanism to address the concerns of
the entire community within the PSMNR;  Advocate for vulnerable communities and power holders, particularly ecoguards
, and conduct a risk and conflict analysis around these communities, and implement
measures to mitigation within the Montana National Park Reserve;
 Contribute to the joint use and maintenance of the
WWF Geographic Information System (GIS) and the PSMNR-SWR;
 Contribute to WWF and PSMNR communication by providing articles for publication;
 Develop monthly, semi-annual and annual work plans and budgets for approval
by the PSMNR-SWR;
 Monitor and report at the frequency and in the agreed formats on the activities planned in
the approved work plans;
 Prepare required technical progress reports, using
WWF standard reporting format;
 Verify fund requests to facilitate disbursements;
 Develop specifications for service providers, consultants or
local support organizations (LSOs) to assist in the implementation of approved activities, and prepare
PSMNR equipment purchase requests as agreed in the work plans and
budgets.
Profile
Required Qualifications
 At least a bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following fields: forestry and wildlife,
natural resource management, environment, rural geography or any other
related specialization;
 At least 5 years of professional experience in the areas of wildlife and protected area management
or sustainable natural resource management.
Required skills and competencies:
 Strong technical skills in wildlife and protected area management;
 Strong skills in bio/socioeconomic monitoring;
 Good overview of the legal and institutional framework in the field of forest and wildlife resource management
in Cameroon;
 Strong technical, communication and organizational skills;
 Ability to work and interact with people from different backgrounds;
 Good team spirit and good knowledge of the functioning of local and
international organizations;
 Computer literacy and good knowledge of data analysis and GIS;
 Fluency in English and familiarity with French.

The Landscape Advisor will work closely with the CFP Program Manager, the Landscape Management Coordinator, the national team and relevant
WWF network staff . ● External Within the PSMNR-SWR structure, the “Landscape Advisor” is the direct counterpart of the heads of the collaborative management and TOU management units at the regional level. In the field, the “Landscape Advisor” will work in close collaboration with the head of the co-management unit (CMU), the community development manager (CDO) and local support organizations (LSO) to facilitate the co-management intervention. This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the type of tasks that are proactively anticipated by staff. Other tasks may be assigned as necessary depending on organizational needs.
