For our National Office in Cameroon, we are looking for a dynamic and committed Landscape Officer – Landscape of
Bakossi-Banyang Mbo.

Duration: Two (02) years
Mission of the department
In pursuit of its vision of a future with healthy ecosystems and flourishing biodiversity
supporting the populations and stimulating sustainable development in Cameroon, WWF Cameroon
(WWF CCO) has entered into a partnership with the Program for Sustainable Management of Natural Resources –
South West Region (PSMNR-SWR). The partnership is currently in its fifth phase, covering
the period from September 15, 2023 to December 2025. The objective of the program is to contribute to the
preservation of high-value ecosystems in the South West region, thereby contributing to
the improvement livelihoods of surrounding communities in a sustainable manner.
The objective is the sustainable management of forests and wildlife by relevant stakeholders for their
benefit, with particular emphasis on the poorest segments of local populations.
Generally speaking, phase IV of the PSMNR-SWR was established to achieve the
following objectives:
Consolidate and develop the achievements and lessons learned from the collaborative management of
protected areas (PA) initiated in the previous phases ;
Support the institutionalization of the co-management process through local planning instruments
(CDP, MP.);
Promote an integrated landscape approach to improve connectivity and promote
the expansion of conservation areas with surrounding forest entities;
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cameroon is recruiting a Landscape Officer –
Bakossi-Banyang Mbo Landscape Promote biodiversity conservation strategies targeted at communities and
strategic groups,
Evaluate financing mechanisms (through (e.g. market-based mechanisms,
compensation systems, corporate investments,
corporate contributions/sponsorship, fiscal instruments) which can be successfully applied under the
given conditions to generate the identified flow of funds.
Main Functions
Contribute to the consolidation and capitalization of the achievements and lessons of the
collaborative management approach of protected areas in the BMWS and the landscape of Bakossi Banyang Mbo
Nweh Mundani (BBMM);
Support the management of protected areas, particularly co-management aspects, in the
Bakossi National Park (BNP) and the Banyang-Mbo Wildlife Sanctuary (BMWS);
Proactively support the implementation of the landscape approach around BNP and
BMWS and the establishment of payment for land-based ecosystem services;
Support the institutionalization of co-management and spatially define the intervention, and support
the institutionalization within the CDP taking into account the landscape approach through
community forests and the agro-industrial complex around the BBMM landscape, and
Assist with monitoring and evaluation, reporting and communication, and
learning from PSMNR and WWF initiatives in the BBMM landscape.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Contribute to the mitigation of land use conflicts around BMWS;
Support the negotiation of participatory management of important wildlife corridors, their
integration into municipal development plans and supervise their implementation around
councils of interest;
Support the institutionalization of the collaborative protected area management approach and its
integration into legal planning processes (protected area management plans,
council development plans, land use plans at community and
advice) ;
Support capacity building of stakeholders in the co-management process;
Support the identification and implementation of collaborative management activities specific to
each group;
Contribute to the implementation of targeted hunter engagement interventions for the benefit of
communities and groups with a strong impact on the BMWS;
Contribute to the development of cooperatives/businesses for agricultural and forestry producers
;
Support the development of a database on NTFPs and the sustainable management of NTFPs by
local communities in and around protected areas;
Contribute to capacity building of protected area staff;
Support research to address priority issues relating to key flora and fauna,
high conservation value forests for conservation habits;
Support the development/revision of
protected area conservation and development agreements, PCDs and landscape management plans/tools;
Contribute to the joint use and maintenance of the WWF and PSMNR-SWR Geographic Information System (GIS) database and the establishment of
similar databases for knowledge management at the protected areas;
Contribute to WWF and PSMNR communication by providing articles for publication; Contribute to the development of monthly, biannual and annual work plans and budgets for
approval by PSMNR-SWR;
Monitor and report at the agreed frequency and formats of the activities planned in the
approved work plans;
Prepare technical progress reports required for the landscape using the
standard WWF reporting format, and
Develop terms of reference for service providers, consultants or
local support organizations (LSOs) to assist in the implementation of approved activities in
the landscape.
Profile
Required qualifications
At least a bachelor’s degree (with 3 to 5 years of experience) in one or more of the following fields:
geography, forestry and wildlife, natural resource management or any other
related specialization, and
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the field of protected area management
and sustainable natural resource management, with experience in
community development.
Required skills and competencies:
Technical skills in land planning and
natural resource management;
Strong technical skills in the design and implementation of
community projects;
Good knowledge of wildlife management and protected areas;
Good knowledge of the legal and institutional framework in the field of forest and wildlife resource management
and land use planning in Cameroon;
Strong technical, communication and organizational skills;
Ability to work and interact with people from different backgrounds;
Good team spirit and good knowledge of the functioning of local and
international organizations;
Computer literacy and good knowledge of data analysis and
basic GPS/GIS skills;
Fluency in English, familiarity with French and knowledge of the region will be assets.

Working relationships:
● Internal
The “Landscape Officer” will work in close collaboration with the “Landscape Advisor”, the CFP
Program Manager, the Landscape Management Coordinator, the Cameroon national team and
relevant WWF network staff.
● ExternalAs part of the PSMNR-SWR, the LO will work in close collaboration with the co-management unit of the
BNP and BMWS and the landscape management unit of the RDFOF in order to ensure good coordination and
standardized intervention. The “Landscape Officer” is the direct counterpart of the BNP
and BMWS Conservators, the Heads of the Co-management Units (CMU) of the Park and the Sanctuary, the
Community Development Technicians (CDT) and the Local Support Organizations (LSO). ) in the animation of
the co-management intervention around the BNP and the BMWS. For its intervention at the landscape level, the
LO will collaborate directly with the curator/assistant curator of the BBMM TOU (DDFOF Kupe) and
the councils/CSOs concerned in the protected area and the landscape.
