For our National Office in Cameroon, we are looking for a dynamic and committed Landscape Officer – Landscape of Mount Cameroon.

Duration: Two (02) years
Mission of the department
In pursuit of its vision of a future with healthy ecosystems and flourishing biodiversity
supporting populations and stimulating sustainable development in Cameroon, WWF Cameroon
(WWF CCO) has entered into a partnership with the Program for Sustainable Management of Natural Resources –
South West Region (PSMNR-SWR). The partnership is currently in its fifth phase, covering
the period from September 15, 2023 to December 2025. The objective of the program is to contribute to the
preservation of high-value ecosystems in the South West region, thereby contributing to
the improvement livelihoods of surrounding communities in a sustainable manner.
The objective is the sustainable management of forests and wildlife by relevant stakeholders for their
benefit, with particular emphasis on the poorest segments of local populations.
Generally speaking, phase IV of the PSMNR-SWR was established to achieve the
following objectives:

 

 

 Consolidate and develop the achievements and lessons learned from the collaborative management of
protected areas (PA) initiated in the previous phases ;
 Support the institutionalization of the co-management process through local planning instruments
(CDP, MP.);
 Promote an integrated landscape approach to improve connectivity and promote
the expansion of conservation areas with surrounding forest entities;
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cameroon is recruiting a Landscape Officer for
Mount Cameroon Landscape  Promote biodiversity conservation strategies targeted at communities and
strategic groups;
 Assess financing mechanisms (e.g. market-based mechanisms,
compensation schemes, business investments,
business contributions/sponsorship, tax instruments) that can be successfully applied under the
given conditions to generate the identified flow of funds;
 Establish sustainable financing mechanisms with emphasis on
locally negotiated land use plans, which include wildlife corridors
, protected areas and their peripheral areas serving as a reference for the
payment for land-based ecosystem services.
Main Functions
 Contribute to the consolidation and capitalization of the achievements and lessons of the
collaborative management approach of protected areas in the landscape of Mount Cameroon;
 Support the management of protected areas, particularly co-management aspects, in the
Mount Cameroon National Park (MCNP);
 Proactively support the implementation of the landscape approach around the PNCM and the
establishment of a land-based payment for ecosystem services;
 Support the institutionalization of co-management and spatially define the intervention, and support
its integration into PCDs, taking into account the landscape approach through
community forests and the agro-industrial complex around the Mount Cameroon landscape;
 Assist in monitoring and evaluation, reporting and communication of
PSMNR and WWF initiatives in the Mount Cameroon landscape, as well as learning from these
initiatives.
Main tasks and responsibilities
 Support participatory management of important wildlife corridors;
 Support the institutionalization of the collaborative protected area management approach and its
integration into legal planning processes (protected area management plans,
Council development plans, land use plans);
 Contribute to building the capacities of stakeholders in the co-management process;
 Support the identification and implementation of collaborative management activities specific to a
group of protected areas;
 Contribute to the implementation of targeted hunter engagement interventions for the benefit of
communities and groups with a strong impact on protected areas;
 Contribute to the development of cooperatives/businesses for agricultural and forestry producers
;
 Support the sustainable management of NTFPs by local communities within protected areas;
 Contribute to capacity building of protected area staff;
 Support research to address priority questions for the conservation of wildlife and
habits, including review of the status of the PNCM;
 Support the development/revision of protected area and landscape management plans;
 Support the development of AFD for protected areas and landscape management;
 Support the establishment of a complaints mechanism to respond to community concerns
within the RNMPS;
 Assist in the analysis of risks/conflicts around vulnerable communities and power holders
, particularly eco guards, and implement mitigation measures within the
RNFP;  Contribute to the use and joint maintenance of the geographic information system
(GIS) of WWF and PSMNR-SWR;
 Contribute to WWF and PSMNR communication by providing articles for publication;
 Contribute to the development of monthly, semi-annual and annual work plans and budgets for
approval by the PSMNR-SWR;
 Monitor and report at the frequency and in the agreed formats on the activities planned in
the approved work plans;
 Prepare required technical progress reports using
WWF standard reporting format;
 Verify fund requests to facilitate disbursements, and
 Develop specifications for service providers, consultants or
local support organizations (LSOs) to assist in the implementation of approved activities.
Profile
Required Qualifications
 At least a bachelor’s degree (with 3 to 5 years of experience) in one or more of the following fields:
geography, forestry and wildlife, natural resource management or any other
related specialization, and
 A minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in the field of protected area management
and sustainable natural resource management, with experience in
community development.
Required skills and competencies:
 Technical skills in land planning and
natural resource management;
 Strong technical skills in the design and implementation of
community projects;
 Good knowledge of wildlife management and protected areas;
 Good knowledge of the legal and institutional framework in the field of forest and wildlife resource management
and land use planning in Cameroon;
 Strong technical, communication and organizational skills;
 Ability to work and interact with people from different backgrounds;
 Good team spirit and good knowledge of the functioning of local and
international organizations;
 Computer literacy and good knowledge of data analysis and
basic GPS/GIS skills;
 Fluency in English, knowledge of French and knowledge of the region are assets
.

Working relationships:
● Internal The “Landscape Officer” will work in close collaboration with the “Landscape Advisor”, the CFP
Program Manager, the Landscape Management Coordinator, the team of Cameroon and the
staff of the WWF network concerned.
● External
As part of the implementation of the PSMNR-SWR, the LO will work in close collaboration with the
co-management unit of the MCNP and the landscape management unit of the RDFOF in order to ensure good
coordination and standardized intervention. The Landscape Officer is the direct counterpart of the
PNCMR Curator, the Head of the Co-management Unit (UGC) of the Park, the Community Development Technician
(TDC) and the Local Support Organizations (OLS) in the animation of the co-management intervention
around the PNCMR. For its intervention at the landscape level, the LO will collaborate directly
with the Conservator/Assistant Conservator of Mount Cameroon (DDFOF Fako) and the
Councils/Local Support Organizations concerned in the protected area and the landscape.
This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the type of tasks that are

depending on organizational needs.
