For the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project in Cameroon, we are looking for an
Accountant with a spirit of integrity and dedication, to ensure the financial and
accounting operations of the project.

Mission of the department:
The Board of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved the
Sustainable Landscapes Impact Program of the Congo Basin (IP CBSL), with a duration of 6 years, which includes a
regional component, managed by UNEP, and several national child projects in
Congo Basin countries.
The Cameroonian Child Project is managed by WWF-US as GEF agency, executed by the
Ministry of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED)
with WWF Cameroon as financial administrator . It addresses drivers of forest loss and
degradation through strategies to strengthen the integrated management of
Cameroon’s globally significant forest landscapes in the Congo Basin, to ensure its integrity
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Cameroon is looking for a
accounting and increase the economic opportunities and livelihoods of
forest-dependent people.
Over the six-year project period, these strategies will be addressed through the implementation of
five components:
● Integration of integrated land use planning and management (LUP);
● Improving the effectiveness of the management and governance of high conservation value forests
, and targeted interventions to protect their threatened species;
● Advance sustainable forest management (SFM) through
non-timber forest products (NTFP) and hardwood value chains;
● Increase the benefits derived from biodiversity through the development of sustainable tourism;
● Monitoring and evaluation (M&E), knowledge management (KM), and regional coordination.
The project targets Cameroon’s key transboundary forest landscape, which stretches from the
Rio Campo maritime landscape on the coast, through the Cameroonian segments of the Tri-National Dja-Odzala Minkebe (TRIDOM) and Tri-National Sangha (TNS) landscapes. ) to the east. The target areas for project interventions
under each strategy depend on site-specific considerations, including
the potential to achieve significant results within the six-year project period, the baselines of
reference and co-financing available, and the ability to manage all environmental and social safeguard considerations
. Several partners and subcontractors will be involved or hired for
the implementation of the various project tasks. Their contribution will have to be coordinated and
constantly monitored.
Main duties:
The Accountant processes and reconciles a wide variety of accounting documents such as invoices,
program invoices, employee reimbursements, cash receipts and supplier statements
; it examines the financial information; he prepares and processes the documents to disburse
funds, making deposits and preparing reports; prepares bank signatory updates
, compiles and reviews information for accuracy; manages fixed assets
and related reports and maintains records.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
He/she will be responsible, among other things, for:
– Ensuring the accounting of transactions and working closely with the
financial director for the smooth running of disbursements to partners and the review of
financial reports. He/she is responsible for keeping the day-to-day accounts;
– Process payments and documents such as invoices, journal vouchers,
employee reimbursements and statements;
– Enter, update and/or retrieve accounting data from automated systems;
– Prepare financial reports (donors and management) for the projects entrusted to him;
– Determine content and collate data to prepare monthly reports for
review;
– Verify and process employee expense claims;
– Filing and/or withdrawing files and reports;
– Assist in the closing of monthly accounts by ensuring that accounts payable are up to date;
– Ensure adequate monitoring of consultancy contracts and grants to ensure compliance
with contractual conditions;
– Assist in the preparation of cost recovery journals;
– Ensure the assigned functions in the different tools (AP, AGIS, Oracle, GFS, etc.);
– Prepare bank reconciliations and perform analysis of general ledger accounts
manually and in the Oracle system;
– Control supplier advances and other receivables and ensure timely clearance
of outstanding supplier items; – Maintain adequate control over various financial documents such as commitments and expenditures
against budgeted amounts; undertake actions related to the following
: general financial information, travel payments and purchase transactions;
– Provide assistance with all staff services such as travel, expense reports,
document search, etc.;
– Manage fixed assets and prepare the reports described in the procedures manual under the
supervision of the financial director;
– Perform other related tasks as required.
Profile:
Qualifications required:
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field;
● At least three (3) years of professional experience with increasing responsibilities in the field
of financial accounting, preferably in an international environment (NGO or
company);
● Experience working with government and donors;
● Skills in the use of MS Office applications, including an advanced level in
MS Excel, are required;
● Experience using an ERP system is highly desirable.
Skills and competencies required:
● Knowledge of automated accounting systems. Knowledge of Oracle would be an
added advantage
● Knowledge of spreadsheets and database software;
● Knowledge of general record keeping and filing systems;
● Ability to understand and apply current accounting guidelines, system updates and revisions
, and policy changes;
● Ability to reconcile and/or balance financial transactions and accounts;
● Ability to manage contracts and update bank signatories
● Ability to help others resolve work issues;
● High ethics and a personal commitment to transparency and accountability

Working Relationships:
He/she will liaise and work closely and on a regular basis with WWF
CCPO finance and procurement staff, as well as technical project staff
(Environmental and Social Safeguards Officer, Operations Assistants landscapes,
monitoring, evaluation and knowledge management specialist).
He/she will collaborate with the National Project Director and the Technical Advisors, finance and accounting
of the project partners and other sub-contracting partners and consultants involved
in the implementation of the projects.
This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the type of tasks that are
