Faced with a growing humanitarian crisis, the IRC is launching emergency programs in the Far North region of Cameroon. Planned programs include environmental health, food security, women’s protection and empowerment, and protection and rule of law.
Summary
Within the International Rescue Committee (IRC), the Women’s Protection and Empowerment (PAF) program is committed to the fight against gender-based violence. To this end, it provides assistance to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The assistant, responsible for monitoring psychosocial care activities for survivors of GBV, works mainly within the framework of the emergency response to gender-specific violence in the areas of the displaced and/or returned after the displacement and is responsible for function of strengthening the skills of the PAF program partners who manage psychosocial support activities, including individual counseling and case management. This also includes assisting partners, who have not developed these skills, initiating them in the future, if appropriate, within their projects to maximize the psychosocial recovery of most participants and ensure their reintegration into the community. their family and/or community.
Area of intervention
The assistant will be based in Amchidé.
Responsibility
The Psychosocial Assistant is under the responsibility of the Case Management Officer. She is responsible for:
Ensuring the case management of GBV survivors, in accordance with minimum standards and in the proper application of case management protocols and tools;
Directly mentor safe space case workers and psychosocial volunteers, and will have frequent interactions with other members of the project team, especially other technical assistants;
Train and strengthen according to the guiding principles and case management of GBV the capacities of the Case Workers of the space on, partners in their work of psychosocial care, follow up the cases, do the individual counselling, referral to the health centers as well as other available services;
Supervise management activities and follow up on survivor cases at each site where necessary, especially for difficult or complicated cases, to ensure that each case is well taken care of from reporting to discharge;
Ensure, with regular and ad hoc supervision, that the care activity meets the criteria established by the PAF program, using the quality checklist of the PAF program;
Collect data on reported cases and ensure the availability of the necessary treatments and tools to provide medical and psychosocial support to survivors (including post-rape kit, confidential and private places, data sheets, etc.):
Ensure the implementation of Girl Shine activities, in the safe space and support case workers, mentors and facilitators for the implementation of the approach;
Monitor and build the capacity of grassroots community organizations;
Supervise and ensure the follow-up of the community mobilizer in his department
Ensure the quality of the data collected in the field and their timely transmission to supervisors:
Ensure the good support of the community, including community leaders, of the intervention area, for the interventions of the PAF program.
Technical Quality
Reinforces an adherence to basic principles of GBV during all WEP activities;
Ensures that engagement with women, girls and their community aligns with best practices when working with GBV survivors
Grants, Planning and Implementation
Prepares and maintains/updates work plans to ensure proper management from the program ;
Strengthens regular engagement with women and girls to ensure access to basic services;
Create and carry out a series of group activities for women and girls that are age-appropriate. ;
Participates in the systematic evaluation of the trainings, in particular the post-tests, and ensures that the trainings and the post-test respect the criteria of the PAF program Respects
the guiding principles [respect, confidentiality, non-discrimination, security], and treats survivors with respect and compassion while maintaining confidentiality;
Ensures respect for the security, safety and confidentiality of the confidential spaces of the intervention areas.
Participates in the assessment and definition of the needs of the PAF program and in the feedback of information.
Follow-up Prepare and submit quarterly, monthly, weekly plans for work in a timely manner, and incorporate supervisor comments as requested;
Produce monthly reports and send them to the program manager and/or the coordinator;
Ensure that all financial documents will be completed and submitted accurately, as required by IRC policies.
General
Agrees to respect the IRC Way (IRC Ethics).
Undertakes to ensure the optimal implementation of these Policies in its work environment.
Is available to carry out any other ad hoc task deemed useful by his direct superior or by the IRC.
Produces reports of programmatic activities at the end of the month.
Actively participates in weekly PAF team meetings as well as in internal and external trainings, team retreats and other meetings or workshops;
Collaborates closely and effectively with the heads of other components within the PAF program;
Attend various meetings inside and outside the IRC as requested by the PAF Manager, or the Program Coordinator;
Perform other tasks requested by the program hierarchy PAF
Other Function
Ensure that all activities will be implemented in accordance with the operational policies of the IRC.
Other additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Profile
Be of Cameroonian nationality;
Have at least 2 years of professional experience in the field of psychosocial assistance and case management, in particular, in the field of psychosocial support to survivors of GBV;
Have experience in facilitating training, capacity building and coaching sessions
Have experience in providing technical support to community partners (ASBLs, OCBs);
Have work experience within an international or national NGO recognized for the value of its organizational arrangements;
Experience and/or proven interest in responding to and preventing violence against women and girls.
Competence in interpersonal communication;
Very strong working skills, in a team and independently;
Strong capacities of written expression and synthesis;
Ability to make and assume decisions;
Have good writing skills in reports and administrative correspondence;
Have a good understanding of the notion of holistic support for survivors of sexual violence;
Ability to participate in a fully neutral and transparent manner in program activities, in particular maintaining confidentiality in the relay of information and contact with survivors;
Availability and motivation to work several days a week in the field;
Be willing to travel in the Mayo Sava department, including the most remote areas
Being from Amchidé is an asset
Speak and write French fluently
Knowledge of all local languages (of host and displaced populations) is essential.
