The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric HIV Foundation (EGPAF) is a global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV, working in 15 countries, and more than 5,500 cities around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children, and caring for those already infected. Through the successful efforts of the foundation and its partners, pediatric AIDS has been virtually eliminated in the United States. The foundation has over 1,000 employees plus 90% of whom are in the field. The overall goal of the foundation is to eliminate pediatric HIV/AIDS by implementing programs for prevention, care, treatment, and the promotion of innovative research.
Project description
In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) proposes to evaluate the effect of the use of a digital contact tracing module in improving the identification, notification and tracing of contacts of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. The “Digital Tools to Expand COVID-19 Testing in exposed individuals in Cameroon (DTECT Cameroon)” study is a FIND-funded project. The method proposed in the DTECT study is a cluster-randomised trial that will compare two contact tracing strategies for patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. The study will also assess the feasibility, acceptability and cost of using the digital contact tracing module. This project will generate, for the program, evidence on the effectiveness of an innovative approach to notification and follow-up of contacts of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. The long-term benefits of this approach and its possible scaling up at the national level would optimize the identification and screening of people who have been in contact with patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 and their early management. resulting in reduced transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in the community and lower incidence and mortality from SARS-CoV-2 overall.
