Plan International is recruiting for its service needs a young academic trainee in civil engineering who will be responsible for helping the Chief Engineer of the Maroua office to monitor the ongoing construction and rehabilitation work carried out by Plan International in the Far North region and to ensure that said daily supervised work is precise, consistent and progressive.
Main roles and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Monitoring Engineer of the Maroua office, the recruited intern will:
– Participate in the development of service provider contracts
– Design quotes for the works to be built / rehabilitated
Provide technical support for monitoring construction / rehabilitation activities
– Daily monitoring of construction activities in construction / rehabilitation sites in progress in the Far North region
– Ensure the availability of construction equipment necessary for the execution of the works
– Ensure that good quality materials are used in accordance with the specifications
– Supervise the teams working on the site, to ensure that the construction work is progressing as planned.
– Report regularly to the supervisor on the progress of the construction works.
– Ensure that the material is stored safely and take preventive measures to reduce the risk of loss.
Produce reports on the progress of ongoing construction/rehabilitation activities
– Submit weekly reports for ongoing construction/rehabilitation works at the various supervision sites.
– Submit monthly monitoring reports of ongoing construction/rehabilitation works to the Maroua regional office
– Prepare and submit works acceptance reports
– Provide end-of-works reports during the three months following the end of the contract.
Work in collaboration coordination with other departments
– Maintain a close relationship with field teams and other departments (program and operations) to ensure the smooth running of operations and effective communication at all levels.
– Foster a close working relationship with the finance department.
– Provide effective technical support to improve the quality of service delivery.
Monitor infrastructure construction/rehabilitation budget lines
– Develop payment plans for construction companies based on contract closures
– Prepare payment documents for service providers
– Support the Field Monitoring Engineer in the development of terms of reference and performance reports related to budget consumption for construction/rehabilitation works.
– Follow with the Supply Chain department all the activities concerning the construction / equipment of the infrastructures in progress in the office of Maroua.
– Participate in the preparation of tender meetings with the supervisor.
Ensure the documentation and capitalization of the achievements of construction projects
– Ensure that all construction documents are tidy and well documented in accordance with Plan International’s archiving policy.
– Document lessons learned and best practices from construction projects.
– Ensure that all construction operations are fully documented in a well-organized filing system, using the numbering system provided to you.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Job requirements
Have at least BAC + 2 in civil engineering, hydraulics or any other similar discipline with at least 03 months of professional experience in the implementation of a construction project or related work;
Having experience of working with humanitarian NGOs and in particular the field of civil engineering would be an asset.
Have good computer knowledge and skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, internet, Outlook)
Ability to plan, prioritize and respond flexibly to changing demands.
Ability to multi-task and meet various deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
