CARE is one of the largest humanitarian aid networks in the world, apolitical and non-denominational that supports and manages emergency and development projects by involving communities, collaborating with local partners. Our objective is to fight against all forms of poverty, to defend access to fundamental rights, to combat social injustice. Supporting women’s empowerment and acting for their rights are essential actions in the fight against poverty, which is why women are at the heart of our programs. CARE is present in 100 countries and through the implementation of nearly 1000 emergency and development projects.
In Cameroon since 1978, CARE develops and implements 3 action programs (broken down into several projects) in response to humanitarian crises and support for sustainable development. They are part of the phases of emergency, resilience of women and young people, access to sexual health and reproduction of the populations most at risk, including PLHIV.
As part of the Global Fund NMF3 grant and for the conduct of the IBBS survey, CARE is looking for:
Position: 26 psychosocial nurse advisers including 2 in 13 towns in Cameroon: Bafoussam, Bamenda, Bertoua, Buea, Douala, Dschang, Ebolowa, Garoua, Kribi, Limbe, Maroua, Ngaoundéré and Yaoundé.
Form of contract: Consultants for 6 months
Reporting line : IBBS Survey Manager
Job location: In 13 cities in Cameroon
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcome and put the participant at ease;
- Obtain the consent of each participant;
- Provide pre- and post-test HIV counseling;
- Ensure the syndromic diagnosis of other STIs such as: (Genital ulcerations, Vaginal discharge, Urethral discharge, Lower abdominal pain, Swelling of the poll, Condyloma);
- Refer the participant to the laboratory technician after the pre-test advice: it should however be noted that the nurse will also be responsible for taking the blood samples in the event that the technician is not available;
- Ensure referrals of HIV-positive cases in care structures;
- Ensure confidentiality of test results;
- Lead the participant to the interviewer.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications:
- State-certified nursing diploma;
- 3 years minimum experience in a nursing position;
- Experience within an NGO is an asset;
- Have proven professional experience in health intervention;
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office: Word – Excel – Powerpoint – Outlook;
- Speaks and writes French and English (asset).
Personal skills :
- Open-mindedness and ability to work in a team;
- Ability to work under pressure with people from a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment;
Physical and moral resistance to any test;
- Have excellent communication skills;
- Flexibility and great capacity for adaptation and organization;
Rigor in work, attention at all times;
- Empathy, understanding and diplomacy in the face of sometimes difficult situations.
