Context and general description  :

The Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation works to catalyze Africa’s economic transformation through social entrepreneurship, science and technology, innovation, public health and progressive policies that create economic opportunities for all. Our areas of work include sustainable development, science and innovation, health, leadership, education, entrepreneurship, economics and public policy. The Denis and Lenora Foundation is a non-profit umbrella institution made up of several departments, including the Nkafu Policy Institute, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Center, Communication and Sustainable Development Programs.

 




 

The Nkafu Policy Institute is a Cameroonian think tank of the Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation that provides independent, in-depth and insightful policy recommendations that advance Cameroon’s economy and those of other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Its reputation is based on its independence, high quality research and innovative policy prescriptions.

The Denis & Lenora Foretia Foundation is seeking an experienced Deputy Director for its Health Policy and Research Division within the Nkafu Policy Institute. This full-time position will be based in Yaoundé.

 

 

 

Roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of the Health Policy and Research Division, the Deputy Director will be responsible for researching, directing and managing a variety of projects and will assist the Director in overseeing the work of the Division. . The job, duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Director of the Division of Health Policy and Research include:

  • Act as the principal advisor to the Director of the Division in the formulation and implementation of the substantive work program of the Division;
  • Assist the Director in the overall management of the division, oversee its activities undertaken in the areas of health policy and research covered by the division, ensure that planned activities are carried out in a timely manner and coordinated both at the within the division and the department;
  • Oversee the Division’s research and analytical work on health policy and research issues and ensure that the outputs produced by the Division maintain high quality standards; that the reports are clear, objective and based on complete data;
  • Be an advocate for change when health threats need to be addressed or programs require revisions;
  • Oversee and conduct research and advocacy projects on a wide range of health care issues and activities involving health care delivery and health services;

 

 

  • Lead the monitoring and evaluation of all health promotion projects or interventions
  • Promote and facilitate cutting-edge research, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research, in areas related to the goals and vision of the Nkafu Policy Institute;
  • Raise awareness and collaborate with stakeholders, through events, meetings, briefings and other actions;
  • Ensure the constant publication of research papers, articles and organize workshops and seminars for the presentation of research results;
  • Coach and mentor the research team to help them reach their potential and identify additional training needs if necessary;
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications and key skills required:

  • Strong analytical, scientific methodology, verbal communication, written communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in conducting quantitative research with a record of published research articles.
  • Must have expertise in public health policy development, preferably with experience in policy analysis.
  • Proven management skills, including the ability to plan, oversee and monitor projects and allocate resources
  • Must be a team player
  • Results oriented

Education and experience:

  • At least a master’s degree in public health or other relevant fields. A doctorate in public health or a doctorate in medicine is preferred.
  • At least two full years of research-based health advocacy work, which could include work in an academic or government setting.
