Recruitment notice: Executive Director of the Nkafu Policy Institute

The role of the Executive Director
With the support of the  General Directorand Board of Directors, the Executive Director guides all aspects of the Institute, establishing a forward-looking Agenda to advance the Institute’s mission. This Leader must exercise discretion and judgment regarding the administration of all internal operations of Nkafu as well as the management of key external relations. The Executive Director should be able to articulate the mission and vision of the Institute to all stakeholders, effectively communicate the results of Nkafu’s research to the scientific community and policy makers, ensure funding for operations and growth of Nkafu and to ensure the overall programmatic and financial integrity of the Institute.

 

 

 




 

The  Executive Directorshould involve the Foundation’s Board of Directors, team members and financial sponsors in the regular evaluation of the Organization’s objectives and priorities. They oversee the development of a five-year strategic plan and monitor progress toward successful implementation.

Opportunities and Challenges for the Executive Director

The Executive Director will design and implement creative strategies to promote the mission of Nkafu and improve its visibility at the national, regional and continental levels. In addition, the next Nkafu Leader must be ready to take on the following opportunities and challenges:

 

 

 

  • Define and lead the next chapter of Nkafu through the creation of a strategic plan.
  • Lead a diverse and experienced team, maintain cohesion and encourage mentoring.
  • Maintain essential public and private sponsorships of Nkafu while securing additional sources of income.
  • Communicate effectively and maintain relationships with external stakeholders.

Experience and qualifications

The ideal candidate must have:

  • A doctorate or equivalent experience in public policy, public management, economics, public health, social sciences or a related field.
  • Fluent in English and French.
  • Expertise in policy development, strategic planning and organizational management.
  • Strong leadership, communication and fundraising skills.
  • The ability to communicate research results to diverse audiences.
  • Financial acumen and experience in establishing budgets and assessing organizational risks.
  • Experience in institutional fundraising and grant making.
  • Advocacy skills and ability to promote Nkafu’s mission.
  • The ability to provide decisive leadership while considering feedback from various stakeholders.

 

 

 

 

Chronology

Potential interview dates for this position have been listed as follows:

  • Paper presentation of qualified candidates to the search committee: October 12, 2023.
  • Dates of the first phase interviews (online): October 18 and 19, 2023.
  •  Date of the second phase of interviews for finalists: November 3, 2023.

Selected candidates are expected to report on the above-mentioned dates in case they are invited by the committee to participate in the interview process.
