CALL FOR  INTERNAL/EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS  FOR THE RECRUITMENT  OF A TECHNICAL ADVISOR  FOR THE “LARGE-SCALE FOREST LANDSCAPE RESTORATION” PROGRAM OF THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT (GIZ/FLR-IKI)  IN BAFOUSSAM




 

General context

The Large-Scale Forest Landscape Restoration (LFR) in Africa program is commissioned and funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) under the Initiative Climate International (IKI). It is executed by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in a consortium composed of AUDA-NEPAD, World Bank, FAO, IUCN, WRI and WWF and contributes to the objectives of the AFR100 Initiative and the “Bonn Challenge” at the level pan-African and global. The objective of the FLR program is the restoration of tree-rich landscapes to promote biodiversity, resilience to climate change and better livelihoods of rural communities.

 



 

In Cameroon, the selected landscape, the Bamboutos Mountains, is located in the western region, and the program aims to bring tangible benefits to rural communities on the environmental, social and economic levels from better landscape management. Improved agricultural production and the restoration of ecosystem services are part of this management. The program will support the development of an appropriate institutional framework and gender-sensitive models for financing and scaling up FLR.

 

The program will also contribute to the development and dissemination of good FLR practices across the continent.




 

To strengthen its team, the FLR program is looking for a  Technical Advisor.

 

A- Area of ​​responsibility and powers

  • Ensure the identification, planning, implementation and monitoring of restoration activities
  • Support the development of Restoration Plans with the necessary mapping and establish a participatory monitoring system with the target group
  • Support the development of the region’s MEOR and organize follow-up
  • Set up and ensure the management of a GIS adapted to the needs of the project
  • Elaboration of the cartography necessary for the elaboration of the progress reports of the project
  • Ensure use of the program’s internal M&E guide.
  • Prepare reports on the achievement of indicators and milestones for the implementation of the project;
  • Participate in the program’s M&E working group with other consortium partners;
  • Support the capitalization of RPF experiences and the dissemination of learning within the program consortium;
  • Support capacity building of FLR stakeholders;
  • Support the component manager in any other task entrusted to him/her.

 

 

REQUIRED PROFILE

B- Qualifications, skills and experience required

Qualifications

  • University degree Bac+4/5 in geography, rural development, agronomic sciences, environment, regional planning
  • Mastery of GIS (mastery of tools for collecting, analyzing and processing data)

 

Professional experience

  • At least seven (07) years of professional experience in a similar position
  • Have a proven experience of two years in the production of maps and cartographic data management
  • Have rural work experience
  • Work experience in an international organization would be an asset
  • Previous experience in the Bamboutos Mountains would be an asset

 

Other knowledge and skills

  • Have an excellent mastery of the RPF approach
  • Knowledge of Forest Landscape Restoration Opportunity Assessment (MEOR) methodology
  • Has proven skills in cartography/GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS or other)
  • Have good practical knowledge in the use of information and communication technologies, as well as a good command of the MS Office suite
  • Have strong analytical and synthesis skills
  • Have excellent writing skills
  • Be autonomous, dynamic and very organized in your work
  • Fluent in French (oral and written), have a very good command of English (including in writing), mastery of local languages ​​common in the project area would be an asset
  • Be precise and result-oriented
  • Be able to work under pressure and resistance to stress;
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team in a multicultural environment
  • Be flexible for frequent trips on field missions.

 

Contract start date  :  01.02.2023

Contract period  :  until 31.01.2025

Duty station  :  Bafoussam , the position may require extensive travel

Internal job classification  :  Band 4T  under the hierarchical supervision of the Principal Technical Advisor
