Missions and Responsibilities
In close collaboration with the supervisors and other technical staff of the project, the Agronomist field assistant contributes under the responsibility of the project officer-zone focal point, the Assistant Project Manager (ACP) and the Project Manager (CP), to ensure the technical supervision of the project activities, in particular: Targeting of beneficiaries, Analysis/assessment of needs, Distribution of agricultural inputs, Awareness raising and technical training of beneficiaries, monitoring of AGR (Income Generating Activities) and technical support of project beneficiaries.
Specific tasks :

  • Ensure supervision of rural supervisors;
  • Ensure periodic planning of the activities planned for this position (see project logical framework);
  • Contribute to the identification/targeting of groups, villages and beneficiaries;
  • Participate in the identification and technical assessment of emergency food security needs for new projects in the area in collaboration with the project manager and the project officer;
  • Ensure technical relations at field level with local authorities and local partners;
  • Prepare and participate in joint supervision and/or M&E missions with humanitarian actors and donors, MINADER and the Food Security Working Group;
  • Provide technical support and training monitoring/supervision of supervisors and beneficiary GICs;
  • Ensure monitoring of the operation and rational management of the groups installed by INTERSOS;
  • Participate in SECAL project coordination meetings at field level carried out in the intervention area by other NGOs/Humanitarian Actors;
  • Monitor and evaluate GIC activities and provide technical guidance;
  • Participate in the design/management of project work tools (sheets, training modules, etc.);
  • Organize regular (weekly) technical meetings with rural supervisors;
  • Regularly participate in meetings on the progress of project activities organized by the Field Coordinator and/or the Project Manager;
  • Participate in the management and organization of local labor teams during the distribution of agricultural inputs;
  • Periodically write reports (weekly & monthly) of the activities for which he/she is responsible;
  • Monitor AGR activities in the field;
  • Train, monitor and supervise rural supervisors;
  • Prepare and disseminate the planning of rural supervisors;
  • Develop beneficiary monitoring sheets;
  • Participate in the development of terms of reference for the various

Job Requirements

Education : University level (Bac +3) in agronomy or similar science and good experience in AGR, especially in the establishment of cooperatives, community associations, etc.

Professional experiences

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an Agronomist Assistant position and in veterinary monitoring and care with humanitarian and/or development NGOs.
  • Proven experience in the field of AGR

 

 

Organizational and communicative skills

    • Good knowledge in the implementation and monitoring of AVEC, CEP
    • Experience in awareness raising
    • Good knowledge of cross-protection
    • Good knowledge in the field of participatory development approaches
    • Experience in emergency and/or development project management and in
    • Behavior Change Communication (BCC)
    • Good knowledge of plant production
    • Motocross Driving Mastery
    • Skills / Attitudes Great capacity for human contact: diplomacy, self-control, interest in cultural differences, availability, flexibility, capacity and motivation to work in a team, capacity to manage stress and to live in an isolated context, diligence, tenacity, determination, integrity, adaptability, sense of initiative, ease of communication, sense of responsibility, respect for the framework and teamwork.
  • Desirable skills and qualifications: Agricultural engineer, agro-pastoral agent.
  • Special skills (Autonomy, Initiative and Knowledge of the intervention area) Adherence to the principles of INTERSOS Hold a motorcycle driving license, category A (motorcycle driving is
    compulsory, therefore eliminatory).
  • ICT: Basic knowledge of: Essential computer skills (Word, Excel and Internet)

IT knowledge

  • Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook),
  • Consumer web browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox)

Language

  • Mastery of the local language (written and spoken): Arabic, Kanuri, Fulfulde, Kotoko, Mandar, Mousgoum, Hausa, Massa; etc.
  • Fluency in French (written and spoken) and knowledge of English is an asset.
