TOR FROM SSA DRIVER POST TO GRADE G2

The purpose of the position is to transport WHO Country Office staff and drive official WHO vehicles and ensure vehicles are maintained in good working order to support the model of country emergency response;

2. Description of tasks

Program objectives and immediate strategic objectives

The mission of the WHO Health Emergencies Program is to build the capacities of Member States to manage the risks of health emergencies and, when national capacities are overstretched, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations

 



The Health Emergencies Program Management and Administration Directorate is responsible for the effective management and administrative support of the emergencies programme, and ensures that WHO’s emergency response is promptly and sustainably funded and staffed. This directorate provides predictable and quality administrative services (human resources, finance, work planning, grants) to the Emergency Program, including during emergency response and ensures effective monitoring of (and in accordance with) normal operating procedures. (PNE), enabling continuous improvement and excellent management of activities

The incumbent works under the supervision of the Operations Officer (OO) and under the general supervision of the MO Representative. The operations manager identifies the trips/tasks. The holder has the ability to plan and schedule the routes. Documents available for its use are traffic instructions/street maps; instructions/guidelines from the WHO Representative; and vehicle service manuals.

Summary of tasks (description of tasks to be performed by the job holder to achieve the main objectives

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, the job holder performs the following tasks:

 




 

Drive any vehicle officially assigned to the WHO representation in general and ensure that it is in good working order;
Ensure the cleanliness and regular maintenance of the vehicle;
Driving the staff or technician in his region of assignment and outside the region or need will be for service necessity;
Notify his supervisor in a timely manner of the condition (critical or not) of the vehicle and accessories, that is to say, check the condition of the office vehicles daily, monitor the work carried out in the garages, ensure cleanliness and the good working order of the vehicles;
Ensure the various errands necessary for service needs (banking, mail deposit or collection, collection of travel tickets or other documents, etc.);
Host or accompany WHO staff, including temporary consultants and/or advisers on official business in the country;
Notify the administration of any travel outside normal working hours and holidays;
Inform the communication unit of all field trips and ensure that the

 

 

communication equipment on board is functional;
Ensure that the steps required by United Nations road safety regulations have been followed in the event of an accident;
Perform other duties as required.

Level of education

At least lower secondary education and a valid driver’s license – A diploma in mechanics would be an advantage.

Professional experience

At least two years of experience as a driver with a positive track record. – Experience with the United Nations system would be an asset

** Basic knowledge of word processing or the use of software. Formal or personal training in the use of standard software

**The work may require driving for an extended period of time, carrying bags some of which weigh more than 25 kg and driving in hazardous weather and traffic conditions.
