WCS is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1895 with the aim of safeguarding wild species and spaces around the world through scientific research, conservation actions, education and awareness-raising on the values ​​of nature. nature, the training of conservation professionals and the development of numerous management tools in partnership with other organizations in the world of conservation. Through its involvement in more than 350 projects, its presence in more than 60 countries and its contribution to the establishment of nearly 150 protected areas around the globe, WCS has brought together the ecological knowledge, cultural experiences and partnerships necessary to enable the cohabitation between wild species and habitats and local communities and reconciling the conservation of biodiversity and socio-economic development. WCS has been present in Cameroon since 1988 and has contributed to the creation and management of numerous protected areas including the Bouba Ndjidda National Park.




 

The Bouba Ndjidda National Park was created by Order No. 120/SEDR of December 5, 1968. It covers an area of ​​220,000 ha in the Northern Region, Department of Mayo Rey and spreads over the districts of Tcholliré, Rey Bouba and Madingring. It is part of the Northern protected area complex with the Bénoué and Faro national parks. It adjoins the Sena-Oura National Park in Chad and forms with the latter the Sena -Bouba-Ndjidda Binational complex whose acronym is BSB-Yamoussa and the Benoué national park.
As part of strengthening its management capabilities, WCS is seeking the services of a Garage Manager.

 

Objective of the position:
The Garage Manager will provide support by coordinating and supervising maintenance activities for machinery, tractor vehicles, generators and motorized tools, etc. for the implementation of the WCS Landscape North Cameroon project in the National Parks of Bouba Ndjidda, Benoué (Cameroon) and Sena Oura (Chad). He/she will be based in Garoua, ensuring the timely supply of products, materials and consumables necessary for the smooth running of the project. Specifically, he will be responsible for ensuring regular and efficient management of the activities and personnel of his service, and for guaranteeing users the availability and provision of vehicles, machines and generators within the planned deadlines, and must be able to provide immediate solutions to operational problems or contact the appropriate people for assistance.
Hierarchical position:
 
The Garage Manager will have the Logistics Manager as his hierarchical superior.
Main activities
1-The list is not exhaustive and will evolve according to the priorities of the WCS organization:

 

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure regular and effective management of the activities and staff of your department.
  • Ensure control of maintenance costs and the service operating budget,
  • Carry out planning of service activities,
  • Define critical stocks and ensure the availability of spare parts and other materials necessary for maintenance activities,
  • Mobilize the material resources necessary for the execution of activities (collection of needs, purchase requests and stock monitoring),
  • Prepare a summary of activities (daily, weekly, monthly and annual),
  • Evaluate employees under your responsibility and contribute to their training,
  • Provide technical guidance to employees in carrying out garage service work,
  • Contribute to the identification of training needs, and make proposals for training plans
2- Guarantee users the availability and provision of vehicles, machines, and generators within the planned deadlines.
  • Organize and supervise maintenance work within the department,
  • Develop and update tools for piloting and managing the maintenance of vehicles, machines and generators (dashboards, breakdown reporting form, miscellaneous monitoring form, periodic maintenance and diagnostic assistance form, etc. .),
  • Develop and update intervention procedures on vehicles, machines, generators and motorized tools, etc.
  • Propose to the hierarchy plans for improvement, optimization and reliability of vehicles, machines and motorized tools for infrastructure work, etc.
  • Analyze intervention reports and provide solutions to recurring breakdowns,
  • Supervise subcontracting work relating to the maintenance of vehicles, machines and motorized tools for infrastructure work, etc.
  • Carry out all other tasks entrusted to him by the Project Management or the Logistics Officer or any other Director of WCS Paysage Nord Cameroun.
  • Plan and supervise, in close cooperation with the human resources department, the procedures (evaluation, detection of potential, development and communication) concerning the personnel under his responsibility in order to define the required knowledge and ensure mastery of it
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
  • Education: Mechanical engineer or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree + 4 or 5 in auto mechanics and machinery or in electromechanics).
  • Have at least 10 (ten) years of professional experience in a similar position;
  • Knowledge of maintenance techniques and procedures for machines, vehicles, tractors and generators;
  • Mastery of the operating parameters of vehicles and machines,
  • Knowledge of mechanics, electricity and welding,
  • Mastery of the types of oils, lubricants and greases, knowing how to establish a budget and manage a project,
  • Have a good knowledge of the NGO sector and the procedures of donors KFW, European Union etc.;
  • Having experience with NGOs would be an asset;
  • Applied knowledge of monitoring and budget methodologies and tools, etc.
  • Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, Powerpoint software;
  • Knowledge of team management and communication techniques, development of a proactive culture and progress.
  • Flexible, autonomous and rigorous in the organization of work;
  • Bilingual French/English.
Working conditions
  • Position based in Garoua with travel to be planned depending on the request of the Project Director, the Logistics Officer and other sites in the park.
  • Paid annual leave
  • One-year contract with possibility of renewal based on employee performance evaluation and project context.
  • A three (3) month trial period.
Required skills
Knowledge: practical or theoretical knowledge, techniques or specific procedures (e.g. knowing the rules of hygiene and safety (individual and environmental).
  • Fluency in French (read, written, spoken) and fluency in English
  • Know how to negotiate and be diplomatic
