CONTEXT
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is a unique membership union made up of government and civil society organizations. With the experience, resources and reach of more than 1,400 Member organizations and the contributions of more than 15,000 experts, it is the global authority on the status of the natural world and the measures needed to to safeguard.
IUCN, with the financial support of the JRS Biodiversity Foundation, is involved in the implementation of the “Support for the sustainable management of databases of aquatic ecosystems in the Chari-Logone sub-basin” project, the objective of which is to facilitate the production of digital databases on aquatic biodiversity and the fish value chain in the Chari-Logone sub-basin. The project aims to achieve 03 essential results: (i) the availability of important knowledge on aquatic biodiversity (database, atlas and study report) in free access, (ii) the improvement of the capacities of the actors on mechanisms for monitoring aquatic ecosystems, fisheries value chains and the various implications on biodiversity and (iii) the operationality of data sharing frameworks and
In view of the implementation of this project, IUCN is recruiting a Technical Assistant who will be able to contribute to the proper execution of the project through good collaboration with the various partners.
POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION
DESCRIPTION
The Technical Assistant will be placed under the supervision of the JRS Project Coordinator and will be responsible for technical support in the planning and implementation of project activities. As such, he will provide, among other things:
• Technical support for the development of the entire cycle of technical and financial planning in collaboration with partners;
• Monitor the implementation of all project activities;
• Monitor, document and report project progress;
• Ensure the preparation and execution of the various meetings or workshops;
• Contribute to the communication and visibility of the project;
• Ensure the preparation of the various technical and financial reports of the project;
• Ensure the implementation of applications and equipment and provide support to end users;
• Facilitate the training of end users of the software and equipment to be acquired during the project;
• Ensure the compliance of all the collection process, data processing and production of deliverables;
• Participate in advocacy and scaling up of the project in new transboundary basins in collaboration with partners.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
• Hold at least a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the field of Fisheries Science, Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Environmental Science, or other related disciplines associated with the experience required.
• Have at least 3 years of experience and responsibility in the management of projects and programs, including at least 2 years in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture or the management of fisheries resources.
• Have at least 2 years of work experience in similar fields in Central or West Africa.
• Demonstrate good knowledge and experience with transboundary basin organizations.
• Have a good knowledge of the environmental, political, economic and social context of the management of fisheries resources in Central or West Africa.
• Possess excellent communication and working skills in multidisciplinary and multilingual teams.
• Have excellent skills in carrying out and supervising field surveys, writing reports, producing and updating digital databases.
• Have an excellent level of spoken and written language in French and a good practice of English.
• Have an excellent command of office software, survey software and electronic communication;
• A good experience in the implementation of projects, especially in an international organization would be an asset.
• Be willing to travel regularly and sometimes in difficult conditions.
• Assist the Project Coordinator in his missions.
• Be flexible and have a sense of responsibility.
• A good knowledge of the project implementation area would be an asset.
