EGPAF works in partnership with the Ministry of Health NACC and the Regional and District Health Teams to support HIV Prevention, Care and Treatment and health systems strengthening services. EGPAF is mainly funded by PEPFAR through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

With funding from CDC/PEPFAR Cameroon for the Reach95 project, EGPAF is supporting the Ministry of Public Health and the Government of Cameroon to scale up HIV testing services to ensure that 95% of people living with HIV know their status , 95% of them are initiated on antiretrovirals and 95% of those on antiretrovirals are suppressed by the viral route. EGPAF also benefits from support from other donors such as Unitaid to implement innovative approaches to catalyze pediatric TB services.

Job Summary
This involves supporting patient follow-up in accordance with national guidelines for the fight against HIV. The Consulting Physician for HIV Services will aim to improve the supply of clinical HIV services in the health facility by offering a package of integrated HIV care and treatment services within the framework of the Attain95 project.
Specific duties and responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the lead site, he/she is responsible for:
• Supporting the implementation of national HIV/AIDS program guidelines, including antiretroviral therapy and treatment of opportunistic infections
• Support the roll-out of Index Case testing with a focus on sexual contacts of newly diagnosed HIV patients and those with a high viral load;
• Ensure the diagnosis and management of cases of treatment failure, opportunistic infections and co-infections, advanced HIV infection, as well as the initiation of antiretroviral treatment, second- or third-line antiretroviral therapy;
• Keep up to date with new TB treatment regimens and drug-resistant/extensively drug-resistant TB protocols;
• Provide care to all patients with respect for their uniqueness, using sound judgment, individual skills and qualifications, and collaborating with the care team.
• Assess the physical and mental state of the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care;
• Provide general clinical support to the services of the hospital of assignment (departments of internal medicine and pediatrics);
• Support retention and compliance support activities within the multidisciplinary framework;
• Ensure the appropriate diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with Kaposi’s sarcoma undergoing chemotherapy;
• Keep the patient and/or the family informed of the disease and provide appropriate explanations on the treatment to be followed;
• Ensure ongoing training and mentoring of the multidisciplinary medical/paramedical team in order to optimize the quality of care and empower staff;
• Complete patient files, collect and analyze medical data and participate in medical reports;
• Submit monthly summary reports to the District Coordinator of Integrated HIV Services and the Coordinator/Major of HIV Services at their designated facility regarding their clinical and programmatic activities.
Professional qualifications and skills:
• Degree in medicine with at least years of experience in the clinical management of HIV patients;
• Registration with the National Order of Doctors of Cameroon is compulsory;
• Specialization in infectious diseases or internal medicine would be an advantage;
• A very good knowledge of Microsoft software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is mandatory.
• Fluency in French is a key requirement and working knowledge of English is an advantage;
• Strong work ethic and ability and willingness to work under pressure;
• Ability to work in a team and willingness to learn;
