Recruitment Notice: One Health Intern
OFFER DESCRIPTION
Terms of Reference for a PPOH Intern
in support of the activities of the central level of the Global project “prevention and response to pandemics, One Health”
Background and rationale
The comprehensive program “Pandemic Prevention and Response, One Health” of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports by order of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) the implementation of the BMZ’s One Health strategy and aims to strengthen epidemic prevention and control capacities at national, regional and global levels with the One Health approach. Key cooperation partners at the international level are the organizations of the Quadripartite (the World Organization for Animal Health OMSA, the World Health Organization WHO, the Food and Agriculture FAO and the United Nations Environment Program UNEP) as well as the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and regional intergovernmental organizations. The supra-regional consultative approach is accompanied by targeted country-level advice and activities in Africa (Cameroon, East African Community, EAC), Asia (Cambodia, Vietnam) and Americas (Ecuador, Selva Maya region), where capacities for One Health and International Health Regulations (IHR) are strengthened in collaboration with networks, health projects and partners. The Rapid Health Response Group (SEEG) supports local partners in cooperation with the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM), Charité – Berlin University Medicine, GIZ, the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI) and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in the prevention and response to infectious disease outbreaks. The program started in January 2021 and runs until March 2024. In-country activities started in November 2021.
The package of activities planned for Cameroon is intended to support the “One Health” Platform and its key partners in the implementation of measures at the interface between animals, humans and the environment. The program aims in particular to support Cameroonian partners to reduce health risks in areas including breeding areas, circulation, sale and consumption of livestock products and to strengthen the application of the One Health approach . The regions of implementation are the central level and the Adamaoua region. The orientation of this support was designed by a review mission from April to June 2021 in close collaboration with the Cameroonian authorities and the various development partners in Cameroon.
Therefore, the PPOH would like to use an intern to support the implementation of activities in the central region.
