SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES
UNESCO and UNOPS have obtained, with the support of the Cameroonian authorities, new funding from the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) to implement the project entitled: “Strengthening the role of young people in the promotion of living together and multiculturalism through secondary education and non-formal and informal learning centers in Cameroon”. This project aims to contribute to the mitigation of tensions and prevent the emergence of conflicts between displaced persons and host communities, by strengthening the role of young people in the promotion of living together and multiculturalism in educational settings. and community. To facilitate its implementation, the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa is recruiting a Project Officer.
He/she will be placed under the authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Central Africa and the direct supervision of the Regional Specialist and Head of Culture Sector. The Project Manager will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and will carry out the following tasks:
Strategic support for the coordination and management of the project
Support the project coordinator in the implementation and monitoring of activities ;
Provide programmatic support to the project team in the preparation of work plans, budgets and proposals in the process of implementing activities;
Participate in the development of culturally appropriate strategies, approaches, project intervention plans that allow the involvement of the greatest number of key stakeholders at the peripheral and operational levels;
Contribute to the development of tools, the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative social data necessary for the development of project intervention strategies based on evidence;
Contribute operationally to the organization of field activities and provide the necessary administrative and logistical support to the project team for this purpose;
Assist the project coordinator in the development and creation of new partnerships, synergies and all forms of collaboration necessary to achieve the objectives of the project and to capitalize on the achievements of the project through networking and proactive engagement with education, youth organizations, civil society, community groups, leaders and other key partners;
Support the project in actions intended to increase the visibility of the project and the PBF with the support of the communication team;
Support the preparation of narrative reports.
Technical assistance to project activities
Provide technical support for the implementation of relevant project activities on a day-to-day basis in the target areas;
Provide substantial and innovative guidance for the implementation of the project in its various components, particularly in the areas of cultural diversity, multiculturalism, strengthening the intercultural skills of young people, supervisors and communities, social mobilization, communication for social change;
Provide technical support for better youth and community engagement through a combination of development communication and sustainable behavior change strategies;
Monitor the evolution of project indicators relating to behavioral and social change;
Participate in the production of deliverables, the provision of contributions to various framework documents as needed and support for the implementation of training and capacity building programs;
Perform other tasks as required by the project and requested by the Project Coordinator or the Culture Program Specialist.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in the field of international development, culture, social sciences, political science, international relations or a related discipline.
Professional
experience Professional experience of at least 4 years, including 2 years in the management, monitoring of projects or programs targeting young people, conflict prevention and peacebuilding;
Relevant and proven expertise in one or more of the following areas: conflict analysis and management, peace and development, peace and cultural diversity, cultural education, intercultural skills, global citizenship education, participatory communication and social mobilization;
Excellent knowledge of the concepts of human rights, cultural rights, strengthening the role of young people in peacebuilding;
Relevant experience in program management and the results-based approach
Prior experience with the United Nations would be an asset.
Languages
Very good command of French and English (spoken and written)
