Missions and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Technician is the technical manager of the implementation of the global community strategy for the development of Income Generating Activities (IGA) and pastoral activities (livestock inventory, training of livestock GDS, breeders, poultry farmers and butchers, curative and preventive care, meat inspection, monitoring of auxiliaries, etc.). He raises awareness among beneficiary populations on livestock issues, identifies needs in villages, ensures the link between rural supervisors and Health Defense Groups working in the field of livestock. He raises awareness among beneficiary populations on the subject of micro-credit and IGA policy. He identifies, with the participation of beneficiaries, promising projects for Income Generating Activities. He works closely with community leaders and representatives of state services to monitor zootechnical activities in collaboration with MINEPIA (Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries) in order to improve the quality of services offered to the most deprived people.

Specific tasks:
➢ Livestock :
- Identify the needs of beneficiaries and make exit requests;
- Participate in planning field activities based on needs;
- Forward reports to the field coordinator;
- Plan animal vaccination campaigns in collaboration with the MINEPIA district delegate (Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries);
- Train beneficiaries on basic techniques of care, livestock feeding, salt licks, butchery hygiene, etc. to enable the development of livestock farming;
- Supervise breeders on aspects of animal production;
- Supervise breeding activities in the field and inform the direct supervisor of the progress of the work;
- Promote and encourage the application of technical knowledge learned during thematic training;
- Make available statistics in the field (number of beneficiaries by camp and by village, number of animals in the camp and surrounding villages by species, livestock mortality rate, reproduction rate, etc.) under his supervision;
- Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual activity reports;
- Hold meetings with delegates, GDS (Health Defense Group);
- Represent the sector in coordination meetings and monitor the implementation of decisions taken jointly with the beneficiaries;
- Monitor the management of veterinary kits and products made available to (GDS).
➢ Income Generating Activities:
- Raise awareness and support the implementation of an AGR management policy
- Train beneficiaries on the management of AGRs, cash journals, etc.
- Carry out feasibility studies of activities to identify promising and economically profitable activities that can contribute to increasing the income of refugees, displaced persons and host populations
- Regularly prepare weekly, monthly and annual activity reports
- Implement AGR management tools and monitor their implementation
- Ensure monitoring of the management of processing units (grain mill)
- Support agents in identifying the needs of groups
- Coordinate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of AGRs
- Train credit management committees and beneficiaries on credit management techniques and the use of management tools
- Helping beneficiaries to set up AGR management tools
- Support existing groups to better organize themselves by providing them with essential management tools: operations log, recovery schedule
- Participate with the office financial administrator to maintain credit tracking documents
- Identify difficulties and propose exit plans
- Identify and analyze the real potential of refugees and host populations
- Organize meetings to exchange experiences between beneficiaries at the camp
- Collect data regularly and update databases
- Coordinate and work closely with other INTERSOS projects as well as with staff from other NGOs for the identification of people with special needs (PBS)
- Analyze the results of activities and make recommendations
- Perform healthily and professionally any other tasks requested by the supervisor or the INTERSOS organization.
Job Requirements
Education
- Minimum Education Bac + 2 in Animal Health and Production and good experience in AGR, especially in setting up cooperatives, community associations, etc.
Experience
- Experience One (01) year of experience in veterinary monitoring and care with humanitarian and/or development NGOs.
Language
- Good command of French (spoken and written) and knowledge of English is an asset
Knowledge Skills / Attitudes
- Knowledge of local languages (Fulfulde, Choa Arabic, Kotoko, Kanuri, Musgoum, Hausa, Massa, Mandara, etc.)
- Proven experience in the field of AGR
- Experience in awareness raising
- Good knowledge in the field of participatory development approaches
- Experience in emergency and/or development project management and in Behaviour Change Communication (BCC)
- Good knowledge of animal health and production
- Motocross Driving Mastery
- Skills / Attitudes Great capacity for human contact: diplomacy, self-control, interest in cultural differences, availability, flexibility, capacity and motivation to work in a team, capacity to manage stress and to live in an isolated context, diligence, tenacity, determination, integrity, adaptability, sense of initiative, ease of communication, sense of responsibility, respect for the framework and teamwork.
- Desirable skills and qualifications: Veterinarian, Agro-veterinary engineer, Veterinary technical agent.
- Special skills (Autonomy, Initiative and Knowledge of the intervention area) Adherence to INTERSOS principles
- Hold a motorcycle driving license, category A (motorcycle driving is compulsory, therefore eliminatory).
- ICT: Basic knowledge of: Have excellent command of IT tools: Word, Excel, Power Point and MS Outlook; Sphinx, etc.
