Context
Impact Santé Afrique (ISA) is a non-governmental organization based in Cameroon whose main objective is to help improve people’s health by setting up transformative and sustainable programmes (for more information, visit www.impactsante.org ).
ISA is looking for a Regional Project Officer -Specialist Gender and Community engagement full time as part of the “REACH” project supported by a consortium led by PATH under USAID/PMI funding for a period of 5 years (potentially renewable) from 8 January 2024. The aim of the project is to provide technical support and to strengthen local ownership, genuine community involvement, behaviour change communication and gender mainstreaming in malaria control programmes in Africa on a long-term basis.
Main tasks:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Impact Santé Afrique, the Regional Project Officer – Gender and Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the engagement of local stakeholders, the integration of gender equality and social inclusion in malaria policies and programmes.
He/she will be responsible for coordinating local stakeholders in the development, contextualization and elaboration of high-impact strategies and actions in the fight against malaria through communication for social behaviour change and advocacy in the selected countries. All this will be based on the following pillars of the project:
- Deploying methodologies through a sub-national approach to adaptation and human-centered design (HCD).
- Foster local ownership and leadership to build resilient systems.
- Maximize opportunities to strengthen local partners and institutions to receive direct funding to lead malaria control and elimination efforts.
- Systematize and integrate high quality data collection and analysis at all levels to identify and reach the unreached and their needs.
- Ensure that design and implementation take into account gender equality.
Responsibilities: To ensure the quality of the interventions proposed in collaboration with local stakeholders in a participatory and inclusive manner in order to achieve a significant and lasting impact of the project.
Specifically, he/she will be responsible for:
- Responding to country requests and implementing the project’s ISA activities on time;
- Ensuring the coordination of project activities
- Ensuring the integration of gender and social inclusion into the project’s malaria programmes
- Ensure community and local stakeholder involvement in the project’s malaria programmes
- Ensure the production of the project’s technical documents, taking into account the project’s objectives;
- Participate in strategic and monitoring meetings of the project at all levels
- Write monthly and annual activity reports;
- Any other task assigned by ISA within the framework of this project.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health or a related field.
- At least 10 years’ experience in public health/projects and related fields
- Proven expertise in the areas of community engagement, gender and social inclusion in the fight against malaria
- Good specific knowledge of USAID policy on gender equality and women’s empowerment
- Good knowledge of social behavior change communication
- Good knowledge of malaria prevention and management policies and strategies
- Ability to work in an international/multicultural environment;
- Proven experience in drafting professional documents in accordance with international standards
- Good bilingual oral and written expression (English and French);
Assets
- Experience in project management under USAID funding
- Experience in human-centered design (HCD)
- Proven experience in oral communication, participation in debates and discussions in national or international forums
- Ability to develop strong working relationships with colleagues and different stakeholders such as partners, community members, donors, civil society, etc…;
- Positive and dynamic attitude;
- Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work;
- Ability to work to deadlines.
