Mission and objectives
The Office of the UNHCR was established on 14 December 1950 by the UN General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country
Job description
Under the direct supervision of the Registration Officer, the UN Volunteer will perform the following tasks:
• Contribute to the monitoring of the situation of refugees in the localities where the mobile registration team will be deployed, including the movements of refugees in the developed sites and off sites.
• Assist in registration activities in registering, enlisting, documenting and updating data of persons of concern to UNHCR.
• Generate data statistics as needed
• Provide translation/interpretation as needed
• Perform any other task as needed
• Orientation and technical support to the volunteer will be given by the supervisor. In addition to the above, UN Volunteers are expected to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading materials made available by the UNV programme, external publications and actively taking part in UNV activities, for example getting involved in activities commemorating the Day of Volunteers (JIV), on December 5.
• Become familiar with and develop any form of traditional and/or local volunteering in the host country.
• Reflect the type and nature of voluntary actions they undertake, including their participation in substantive reflections.
• Contribute to the drafting of articles on field experiences to be submitted for the UNV program publication/website, newsletter and press releases, etc.
• Contribute to the Welcome Program for newly arrived UN Volunteers in the country of assignment;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteers or encourage individuals and organizations to use online volunteer services when technically possible.

• Better planning of assistance activities based on reliable statistics.
• Better enjoyment of rights by beneficiaries (refugees, asylum seekers) due to the documentation received,
• A better assessment and management of the needs of populations through the recording of relevant information,
• Good management of equipment and recording equipment ensured
• A report on results related to volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as the number of volunteers mobilized, participation in activities and contribution to capacity development.
Eligibility criteria
Age: 27 – 80
Nationality: Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in
• Professional experience related to the position;
• Knowledge of the humanitarian context and particularly of refugees/asylum seekers would be an asset;
• Knowledge of the field would be an asset;
• Motivation to contribute to peace and development and to serve others;
• Good interpersonal skills;
• Willingness to contribute to the work as a member of a team;
• Willingness to travel a lot and in remote areas as part of work;
• Flexibility and openness to learning and new experiences;
• Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
• Experience as a volunteer and/or experience of other cultures, (for example: studies, work as a volunteer, internship) will be seriously taken into account
• Knowledge of the case management tool (proGres) would be an asset;
• Knowledge of the biometric enrollment tool (BIMS) would be an asset;
• Computer skills (Word, Excel etc).
