SANSA International Space Weather Camp 2024
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to learn all about space science and technology with a focus on space weather, a relatively new and exciting field involving the study of the Sun and its influence on space and the Earth’s upper atmosphere. Understanding space weather has become vital due to its impact on space and ground-based technological systems essential to modern everyday life.
The 2024 International Space Weather Camp will be hosted by the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Germany, and the University of Alabama in Hunstville (UAH), USA, from 17 June to 12 July 2024.
About South African National Space Agency (SANSA)
The South African National Space Agency (SANSA) came into being in December 2010, but South Africa’s involvement with space research and activities started many decades earlier with helping early international space efforts in the second half of the 20th century, and observing the Earth’s magnetic field at stations around Southern Africa. SANSA was created to promote the use of space and strengthen cooperation in space-related activities while fostering research in space science, advancing scientific engineering through developing human capital, and supporting industrial development

Aim and Benefits of International Space Weather Camp
- Successful applicants will be fully funded to attend two weeks of lectures and practicals at each hosting facility (UAH, Hunstville, USA: 17 – 28 June and DLR, Neustrelitz, Germany: 1 – 12 July ).
- Funding includes return flights, visa, accommodation, meals and subsistence as well as airport transfers.
Requirements for International Space Weather Camp Qualification
- Final year BSc Hon/BEng, MSc South African citizen or permanent resident students in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Electronics are invited to apply now for this exciting camp.
- Preference will be given to students with no space weather background.
