Organizational structure
This position is located within the ILO Technical Support Team for Decent Work for Central Africa and Country Office for Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea and Sao Tome and Principe (ETD/BP-Yaoundé) unit, whose mission is to improve access for men and women to decent and productive work, in conditions of freedom, equity, security and dignity. The office’s mandate is to promote rights at work, encourage the creation of decent jobs, develop social protection and strengthen dialogue in the search for solutions to problems in the world of work. This unit is directly involved in defining the Office’s communication guidelines, particularly in its creative and innovative aspects. In particular, he or she manages social media and organizes events to increase the visibility of ETD/BP-Yaoundé.
Main mission
As a member of the team, the incumbent provides high-level support to communication and information management, and is responsible for delivering, completing and/or monitoring the delivery of specialized support services. The incumbent works with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness and client service, supporting advocacy, awareness-raising, media relations, event management, research, publication, documentation and information management activities, in line with ILO communication strategies at the national and/or regional and global levels. The incumbent ensures the correct application of communication and information management rules, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines. The incumbent evaluates and provides input into the design and improvement of communication and information management services and delivery processes.
 The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Director of ETD/BP-Yaoundé. This supervision focuses on service delivery and involves verifying that agreed results are achieved and that work is coordinated and integrated with related services. Assignments are generally carried out with minimal supervision, with the incumbent having a high degree of autonomy, particularly with regard to matters relating to the execution of operational activities. Work is reviewed to verify the feasibility of recommendations and the accuracy of final results. Working Relationships Internal contacts take place with relevant staff and managers in field offices, project offices and at headquarters; they aim to collaborate on assignments, provide support and guidance for the resolution of complex issues in compliance with applicable standards. Contacts also aim to coordinate activities with other units for the delivery of interdependent services. The incumbent regularly liaises with, seeks and receives guidance from, the regional communications unit and information management services at headquarters. External contacts are primarily with the media, the general public, academic institutions, service providers and counterparts in United Nations agencies and other international organizations, and are aimed at exchanging information on ILO activities, coordinating and monitoring pending issues and the development of communications and information products, and contributing to the resolution of complex communications issues. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Undertake and carry out specialized support services in a range of areas related to communication and information management, including promotion, awareness-raising, media relations, event management, research, publications, documentation and information management. Provide support to management on internal communications within the office.
2. Keep abreast of ILO issues related to the world of work and its national and regional priorities.
3. Identify communication and information management needs and discuss specific assignments with relevant staff and managers. Provide support in the design and development of the most appropriate communication and information products to convey key messages and target different audiences.
4. Develop and/or review communication and information products by collecting information from a variety of sources, ensuring accuracy of content and ensuring the quality of their presentation and design in accordance with applicable standards.
5. Conduct press reviews and research current events on topics of interest to the ILO. Disseminate them within the Office and to the Regional Office, Headquarters and other relevant parties, as appropriate.
6. Provide documentation services and administer and update web pages, databases and web content management systems, classifying information and ensuring its consistency and compliance with applicable standards. Develop and maintain a media contact or distribution list.
7. Compile statistics and analyze data and information on web pages, social media and other communication and information management activities.
8. Identify opportunities to promote key messages to diverse audiences, including the media, and assist in the planning and organization of meetings, campaigns, and other events.
9. Keep abreast of developments in communication and information management techniques, tools, standards, guidelines, and good practices, and provide guidance and training to staff to enhance knowledge. Monitor and guide the work of support staff performing communication and information management tasks, as required.

10. Evaluate work methods and procedures and propose improvements. Evaluate the impact of changes and recommend necessary follow-up actions. Work closely with other administrative areas to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of activities in the design and delivery of services, and recommend improvements to interdependent processes.
11. Respond to inquiries. Manage the office documentation center and ensure efficient filing, retrieval and organization of documents, as required.
12. Attend and participate in internal and/or United Nations committees and working groups. 13. Perform other relevant duties as requested. – Minimum Requirements Education The incumbent must have completed secondary education. Training in a field related to communications or information management. Experience At least six years of experience in administrative support, primarily in communications or information management support services. Languages ​​Excellent command of French and/or English. Working knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese would be an asset. Knowledge and Skills (Technical and Behavioural) Good knowledge of communication and/or information management techniques. Good knowledge of multimedia techniques and platforms. Good knowledge of the production and use of multimedia products. Good knowledge of PC software (including word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software) such as Microsoft Office. Knowledge of event planning and organization. Substantive knowledge and understanding of ILO programmes and activities. Knowledge of methods and techniques for assessing quality and process delivery efficiency. In addition to the core competencies defined by the ILO [integrity and transparency, sensitivity to diversity, orientation towards learning and knowledge sharing, client orientation, communication skills, orientation towards change, takes responsibility for results, quality orientation, collaboration], this position requires the following competencies: Ability to interpret and comply with applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to adapt quickly to new software and computer systems, including website updates, desktop publishing and graphic design.
Ability to code and classify information according to established standards.
Ability to tailor communications to the target audience.
Ability to research and analyze information from a variety of sources.
Ability to write and edit content and web pages.
Accuracy, attention to detail, and skills in document design, layout, and formatting.
Ability to coordinate the work of support staff.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment and demonstrate non-discriminatory and gender-sensitive behavior.
