SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES

AS PART OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW MULTI-YEAR RESILIENCE PROGRAM FOR EDUCATION IN CAMEROON FUNDED BY “EDUCATION CANNOT WAIT” (ECW), THE UNESCO MULTISECTORAL REGIONAL OFFICE FOR CENTRAL AFRICA IS LOOKING FOR A ) ASSOCIATE PROJECT SPECIALIST IN CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC EDUCATION.

Under the general authority of the UNESCO Regional Director for Central Africa, the coordination of the Specialist and Regional Coordinator of Education in Central Africa and the direct supervision of the Specialist and Head of the Culture Sector in Central Africa, he /she will carry out the following tasks:

  • Ensure the overall monitoring of the project component related to socio-cultural, artistic and sports activities with a view to recovery and psychosocial support;
  • Prepare and update a work plan for this component of the project in consultation with the culture and education teams;
  • Liaise with target sector ministries, local and regional authorities, other UN agencies, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders to ensure effective project implementation;
  • Ensure the consistency of the proposed activities with all the activities and expected results of the project;

 

 



 

 

  • Provide the necessary technical expertise and support in carrying out the activities;
  • Ensure the preparation of concept notes, briefings, presentations, analytical notes and all documents developed around the socio-cultural, artistic and sports component;
  • Ensure compliance with deadlines and the quality of the deliverables of consultants and experts involved in the implementation of the project;
  • Ensure a watch on the risks around the implementation of the project and submit for decision the possible actions if necessary;
  • Provide regular progress reports and contribute to the overall project implementation report;
  • Contribute to the overall visibility of the project and the sharing of information and knowledge related to the project;
  • Perform all additional tasks required and assigned by the Head of Culture Sector.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in the field of socio-cultural animation, cultural and artistic education, heritage and creativity, or any other related specialization.

 

Professional experience

  • At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in the field of artistic and cultural education, socio-cultural animation, youth and animation, arts, heritage or any other related field;
  • Proven experience in the educational environment in Cameroon;
  • Professional experience with the United Nations system and/or in the field of international relations and diplomacy, multilateral cooperation and development.

 

Languages

  • Excellent knowledge of English or French (written and spoken) and good knowledge of the other language.

Other Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent project management and coordination skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of the educational system of Cameroon;
  • Excellent knowledge of cultural and educational approaches in post-crisis recovery;
  • Knowledge of UNESCO’s normative programs and instruments in the field of culture and education;
  • Ability to establish, maintain and strengthen effective working relationships with national/local authorities, cultural institutions and relevant intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations;
  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills, in particular the ability to collect, synthesize and analyze information from various sources and, on this basis, to draft working and information documents in a clear and concise manner;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team and in a multicultural environment;
  • Excellent knowledge of computer tools (MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
