Social Worker (local recruitment) at International Medical Corps

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

The Social Worker is responsible for providing psychosocial care for women and girls who are victims of violence and managing GBV activities on the site he or she covers. This may also include individual counseling or other types of psychosocial interventions as needed by the program. He/She is also responsible for helping beneficiaries with psychological recovery and ensuring their reintegration into their family and/or community.

 

 




 

 

He/She also does the follow-up by using the methods and tools established by the IMC GBV program.

  1. Specific responsibilities and tasks
  • Ensure psychosocial implementation (identification, reception, listening, support and referral) in emergency situations;
  • Facilitate the participation of beneficiaries in their own care;
  • Identify on a permanent and monthly basis the difficulties encountered by vulnerable women and girls and report them within the team, propose solutions and facilitate their implementation;
  • Submit follow-up reports to the Component Supervisor within the required time frame;
  • Participate appropriately in the monthly production of observation notes and recommendations for activities;
  • Coordinate the implementation of daily activities, in collaboration with the medical staff of the medical mobile unit;
  • Coordinate psychosocial care and case management;
  • Conduct outreach to inform community members of available care and services for GBV survivors – including medical, psychosocial and legal;

 




 

 

  • Identify GBV survivors in the community with the support of community volunteers;
  • Ensure safety and timely access to quality medical care;
  • Provide ongoing and additional psychosocial support as needed, including home visits if applicable;
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding case information, including proper documentation of new cases and storage of case notes in secure filing cabinets;
  • Follow the GBV guiding principles: safety, confidentiality, respect and non-discrimination and ensure that implementing partners do so as well;
  • Engage the community at all levels to build, strengthen and maintain a functioning community referral network
  • Coordinate the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of GBV communication activities
  • Organize sensitization sessions with women’s groups in the WGSSs focusing on GBV themes
  • Participate in the facilitation of training sessions and field visits;
  1. Capacity Building :
  • Supervise and build the capacity of community mobilizers on SBCC (Social and behavior communication change) techniques.
  • Support the development and implementation of the various training courses planned in the project.

 

 

 

 

  1. Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Ensure accurate data collection of field activities by mobilizers
  • Collate data and submit weekly reports to GBV supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records of community participation during community sensitization.
  • Retain flexibility to perform other duties when requested by supervisor
  1. Collaboration
  • Participate in support in the field of psychosocial care for partner organizations, intermediaries/volunteers and leaders;
  • Provide technical support to partner agents, especially volunteers, during field monitoring visits;
  • Always adhere to international guiding principles and protocols for IMC and working with GBV survivors, and ensure that focal points and other field workers do the same.
  • Actively participate in assessment and response missions as appropriate, including community capacity building.
  • Participate in the collection of information / data for program indicators,
  • Actively participate in weekly GBV team meetings as well as internal and external training,
  • Collaborate effectively with heads of other programs and departments.

PROFILE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Formation :

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, sociology, gender, public health, international development or other relevant field of study, or equivalent experience.

Experience :

 Two years of experience implementing GBV programs, particularly with refugees.

 Relevant experience in the field of gender-based violence is strongly desired.

– Experience working with a national or international NGO supporting the health system in Cameroon.

– Experience of working in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment

– Experience in emergency response in Cameroon is a plus.

– Living in the Far North region is a plus.

SKILLS :

 Knowledge of standards and guidelines for GBV programming, as well as guidance on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).

– Ability to exercise good judgment, adapt to a changing environment and make decisions independently.

– Ability to work with an intercultural team

– Strong ability to work long and under pressure, to be dynamic, intelligent and proactive.

– Strong communication skills, both oral and written

– Ability to work independently and within a team.

– Essential computer skills (word, excel and internet). Ability to learn and use software used for recording.

– Ability to multi-task and adapt easily in a resource constrained environment.

– Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and the local language (Fulfulde). Knowledge of English is a plus.

Security:

Ensures application and compliance of security protocols and policies.

Prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse:

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps
