TERRESTRIAL BIODIVERSITY ASSISTANT –  KIKOT-MBEBE HYDRO POWER COMPANY SA –  Professional Internship

Context
The Kikot-Mbebe hydroelectric development on the Sanaga River is located in the
departments of Lékié, Nyong-et-Kellé and Sanaga-Maritime. The
planned installed capacity is 500 MW. The energy produced will be evacuated by a 400
kV Very High Voltage line, from Mbebe to Omog, near Boumnyebel. The Kikot-Mbebe Hydro Power Company
(KHPC), owned 50% by the State of Cameroon and 50% by EDF International SAS, is
responsible for the development, construction and operation of the Project’s structures.
Preliminary construction work will begin at the end of 2025, for commissioning of this
development as soon as possible.
Job Description
The Biodiversity Assistant will be placed under the supervision of the Terrestrial Biodiversity Engineer and the
Environmental Studies Manager of the Kikot-Mbebe project. His role will be to assist the
biodiversity engineer in the implementation of his activities.
Responsibilities
• Monitoring of consultants, design offices/companies during field campaigns;
• Monitoring of issues related to terrestrial fauna and flora (wood removal,
forest and wildlife inventories, creation of protected areas or support for existing protected areas,
management of ecosystem services, forest nurseries);
• Implementation and monitoring of ERC (Avoid, Reduce, Compensate) measures related to
terrestrial biodiversity;
• Restoration and management of natural habitats impacted by the construction site;
• Wildlife management in construction site situations (displacement of individuals,
protection measures);ecological issues
among local communities, consultants and site stakeholders• Writing of reports and activity reports related to terrestrial biodiversity. Qualifications, experience and skills required • Engineering degree Bac+2 to Bac+3 in forestry, ecology, biodiversity management,environment or equivalent;| © https://minajobs.net/• Professional experience of between 3 and 5 years in carrying out forest and wildlife inventoriesand environmental impact studies;• Good knowledge of local ecosystems and protected species;• Mastery of biodiversity monitoring protocols (fauna/flora);• General knowledge of hydroelectric projects;• Knowledge of the regulatory framework for forests and wildlife;• Mastery of data entry and processing tools (Excel, naturalist database);
• GIS skills appreciated;
• Knowledge of Bassa and/or Eton cultures will be a plus;
• Scientific rigor and autonomy;
• Writing skills;
• Sense of teamwork and ability to adapt to the construction site context;
• Taste for the field, including in difficult conditions;
• Strict compliance with safety rules on site.
Logistics and administration
• The candidate will be recruited within the Environment and Social Department of KHPC;
• Professional internship contract for a period of six months renewable;
• The position is scheduled to start in October 2025;
• Full-time position based on the Evodoula site/Kikot project area;
• Accommodation on the Evodoula site/Kikot project area paid for by the employee;
• KHPC will provide travel to the site;
• Frequent travel in the field;
• Work outdoors, sometimes with staggered hours.
