What is Thailand Work Visa?

A work visa for Thailand is a category “B” visa, a non-immigrant visa, because an individual is traveling with the intention of finding work but not moving permanently. So, if you intend to work or look for a job in Thailand, you must have a work visa on hand.

In fact, the work visa only allows you to enter Thailand, but you can’t start work with just a visa; for that, you will need to apply for a work permit.

Who needs a Thai Work Visa?

Everyone who is moving to Thailand to find or do some paid activity will need a work visa. Even those candidates who are exempted from tourist visas will need a non-immigrant work visa and permit if they want to work in Thailand.

Requirements for Thailand Work Visa 2023.

There are the following document one must keep with themselves during the time of application;

  • A passport valid for up to six months
  • The passport must have at least two blank pages
  • A signed and completed Thailand work visa application form
  • Passport-size photographs with white background
  • Proof of enough financial resources (20,000 Thai Baht)
  • Police clearance certificate
  • Approval letter from the Thailand Ministry of Labour.
  • CV/Resume

How to get a Thailand Work Visa 2023.

The process of getting a work visa for Thailand is similar to any other country. You can apply before traveling to one of the diplomatic mission offices of Thailand (consulate/embassy) in your home country. The process is explained in the following few steps;

  1. Contact the Thai consulate or embassy. You can also visit the website and make an appointment for a meet-up at any available time.
  2. Before going, please gather all your documents.
  3. Submit the documents and visa application. You can either post the documents and application or submit them in person at the embassy or consulate office.
  4. Wait for the processing of the application.
  5. Once approved, collect the passport and visa.

NOTE: You must travel to Thailand as soon as you get your visa; otherwise, it will expire.

  • Single-entry Thailand Work Visa fee – 2,000 Thai Baht (USD 65)
  • Multiple-entry Thailand Work Visa fee – 5,000 Thai Baht (USD 164)

The fees may change slightly from one country to another based on the local currency, as can the payment method. Some offices only accept cash, while others may ask you to pay through a bank transfer.

Thailand Work Permit 2023.

After getting a work visa, you will need a work permit which will allow you to work in Thailand; otherwise, an alone work visa will not allow you to work but to enter the country.

You are eligible for a work permit if you work for a company that follows the rules of the Ministry of Labour, such as;

  • The company must be registered with at least 2,000,000 Thai Baht capital.
  • The company must pay all the taxes to the Revenue department
  • The company is an export business with a foreign allowance of at least 3,000,000 Thai Baht in the past year.
  • The company must have at least 50 or more Thai employees.

 

Moreover, there is a limit to hiring foreigners. You can only hire one international candidate per 50 Thai nationals, or one international worker per 2,000,000 Thai Baht registered capital.

Thailand Work Permit Requirements

For a Thailand work permit, you and your employer must keep the following supporting documents;

  • A passport
  • Copies of all the pages in your passport
  • Academic transcripts and degrees
  • Letter of contract/employment (must state salary/position/responsibilities)
  • CV/Resume
  • Any certificates and licenses
  • Three photographs (5×6 cm)
  • Proof of accommodation in Thailand
  • A good health certificates
  • Marriage certificate (if available)

NOTE: All documents must be legalized before submission and must be translated into the Thai language.

How to apply for Thailand Work Permit 2023?

You can give power of attorney to your employer to apply for a work permit in Thailand on your behalf, or you can also apply yourself. The application can be submitted to the Ministry of labor after the approval of non-immigrant visa category “B.” Keep the important documents with you. Please remember that you must apply for a work permit as soon as you get a work visa; otherwise, the visa will expire.

Once the work permit is ready, you can receive it from the Ministry of labor. Keep the permit always with you in case you get visited by the immigration officers.

A fee for Thailand Work Permit 2023.

  • Thai Work Permit for up to three months – 750 Thai Baht
  • Thai Work Permit between three to six months – 1,500 Thai Baht
  • Thai Work Permit longer between six to 12 months – 3,000 Thai Baht

Thai Work Permit Validity

A Thai work permit is only valid for up to one year. It also depends on the duration of the work.

Can you extend a Thailand Work Permit?

Yes, you can extend a Thailand work permit for an additional year, but you must meet the requirement, such as; enough salary and a valid work contract. You can Get an Extension of Stay Permit at the Thai Immigration Bureau.

After the extension period expires, you can apply to extend it again for another year. After at least three years of living with a Work Visa, you can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit.

Thai Re-Entry Permit.

In addition to extending your visa, you also have to get a Thai Re-Entry Permit from the Immigration Department.

The Re-Entry Permit allows you to leave Thailand during the validity of your visa without the visa becoming void. If you don’t have a Re-Entry Permit and you leave Thailand, you won’t be able to re-enter without getting a new visa.
