Full vacancy title: Internship program 2024 – Session I

Location: Selected candidates will be deployed in various departments at the Bank’s Headquarters (Abidjan, Ivory Coast), Regional and Country Offices. However, the selected interns will carry out their internship either remotely or in person depending on the needs of their respective host units.

THE BANK :

Created in 1964, the African Development Bank is the first pan-African development institution. Its mission is to promote economic growth and social progress across the continent. The Bank has 81 member countries, including 54 African countries (the regional member countries). The Bank’s development program aims to provide financial and technical support to transformative projects that will significantly reduce poverty through inclusive and sustainable economic growth. To further focus on the objectives of the Ten Year Strategy (2023–2032) and achieve a greater impact on development, five main areas, in which interventions will need to be intensified for Africa, have been identified, namely: energy, agro-industry, industrialization, integration and improvement of the quality of life of African populations. The internship program is a component of the talent management strategy which will enable the Bank to achieve its ten-year strategy on the one hand and the High 5s on the other.

 

Candidates for the program are selected on a competitive basis and based on the needs of the Bank.

Objectives :
The main objectives of the internship program are to:

  •  Offer the opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience in the Bank’s priority areas of activity,
  •  Provide the Bank with a reserve of potential candidates for future recruitment.
  •  However, candidates should not expect tenure at the end of their internship period.

Fields of study required for the internship:

  •  The disciplines in which interns are selected must be part of the Bank’s job families, in particular economics, agriculture, private sector development, human capital development (education and health), environment , finance, infrastructure development, human resources management, information technology, communications, law, internal audit, budget, governance or any other discipline that the Bank deems relevant to its operations.
  •  Particular interest is given to students working on projects directly related to the Bank’s mission.

Schedule for Session 1 of the 2024 Program:

Session 1 of the 2024 Internship Program will begin in January 2024. Internship

Terms and Conditions Internships

are granted to each candidate for a minimum duration of three (3) months up to six (6) months maximum. Internships are permitted only once per candidate.

  •  The selected interns will carry out their internship either remotely or in person depending on the needs of their respective host units. Remote interns must have access to a personal computer, a reliable internet connection, and a conducive living environment that facilitates smooth, uninterrupted remote work.
  •  In-person interns will be responsible for their own round-trip air travel expenses (if applicable) as well as their living expenses.
  •  The Bank will assist, as far as possible, the interns concerned in obtaining their entry and residence visas in the Bank’s host countries where they will carry out their internship.
  •  Interns will benefit from medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank for the duration of their internship.
  • Eligible interns will receive a monthly stipend.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the internship program, the candidate must:

  •  Must have reached the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and be no more than thirty (30) years old at the time of beginning the internship program.
  •  Be enrolled in a master’s level program in a recognized public or private higher education establishment.
  •  The candidate can apply for an internship within one (1) year after graduating.
  •  Be nationals of a member country of the African Development Bank.
  •  Provide a letter from their school confirming their registration or a copy of the aforementioned diploma.
  •  Candidates must be fluent in at least one of the Bank’s two working languages ​​(English or French).
  •  Be able to use the Bank’s standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); Knowledge of SAP is desirable.

Specialized disciplines and professional areas are aligned with the Ten-Year Strategy (TYS) and the Gender Strategy. In addition to the areas already part of the Bank’s job families, attention will be paid to the following areas:
  • Electricity, Energy, Climate and green growth;
  • Agriculture, Human and Social Development;
  • Private Sector, Infrastructure and Industrialization;
  • Economy, Statistics;
  • Governance and knowledge management;
  • Finance;
  • Legal services;
  •  Human Resources and Institutional Services: Technology and Information, Language Services, General Services and Purchasing, Human Resources Management;
  • Audit, Fight against corruption;
  • Assessment;
  • Communication & External Relations;
  • Public relations;
  • Gender;
  • Environmental and social assessment.
