Description of the position
Objective / Summary of the position.
Placed under the responsibility of the Deputy Logistics Coordinator, the driver is in charge of:
- Transport and safety of people and goods
- Loading and unloading the vehicle
- Small mechanics/vehicle maintenance
- Compliance with procedures and code of good conduct
Position location
This position is open to people with the required profile and the successful candidate must reside in Yaoundé by his own means; it is therefore not subject to relocation. The candidate selected at the end of the recruitment process cannot therefore claim the status of relocated employee.
Responsibilities
1. Transportation
- Ensures the driving of a CRF vehicle for the transport of goods and people of the organization;
- Ensures the travel of CRF personnel according to the travel schedule defined by the logistics department and this, in the best possible transport conditions for people and/or equipment;
- Drives carefully, respecting the established speed limits, the highway code and the internal safety rules of the French Red Cross;
- Ensures that persons on board are authorized to borrow CRF vehicles; otherwise, refuse support. In the event that people who do not belong to the CRF team are authorized to travel in the NGO’s vehicle, the driver is responsible for having them sign a waiver of liability;
- Before each departure: fasten their seat belt and ensure that each passenger has properly fastened theirs;
- Ensures before departure that the vehicle is roadworthy (condition of tires, engine oil level, radiator coolant, etc.), has enough fuel to complete the scheduled route; Otherwise, inform your supervisor.
- Stays close to his vehicle and is ready to leave at any time (Park in the starting position);
- Ensures the safety of the vehicle which must always be under his supervision;
- Adapts its speed according to the state of the road and its load;
- Takes care of the formalities at the checkpoint, only solicits passengers (presentation of identity papers, passports, etc.) when expressly requested by the authorities;
2. Loading and unloading the vehicle
- Is responsible for loading his vehicle. In other words, he participates in the loading, ensures that the goods are safe to ensure the journey and that the weight of the goods respects the maximum load of the vehicle;
- Ensures that the waybill (waybill) is consistent with the load. As a reminder, when the driver signs a Waybill, he becomes responsible for the goods until the waybill is discharged by the recipient;
- Participates in the unloading of goods while respecting the goods;
- When the vehicle is loaded, the driver must stay close to it at all times to avoid loss / theft;
3. Small maintenance/vehicle mechanics
- At each shift, the driver must check his vehicle in accordance with the instructions of his superior. Alert his superior if he detects anomalies;
- Controls the mileage of his vehicle to carry out the necessary maintenance (A, B and C) and alerts his superior 2 weeks before the due date;
- With the approval of his superior, the driver can carry out type A interviews in accordance with the procedures;
4. Compliance with procedures
- Completes all the documents inherent in the maintenance of the vehicles (logbook, daily review, etc.);
- In the event of an advance received from the Administration, settles all invoices and others which are paid on the ground;
- Ensures the conformity of the invoices: date, supplier stamp, failing that: his name, his telephone number and identity card number, name of CRF, total amount in figures and in words, signature of the supplier;
- Refuse any non-compliant invoice;
- Returns the balance of the advance and all supporting documents to the Administration within the time limit;
- When transporting the goods, he ensures that the indicated procedures are respected (signature of waybill and other documents) in accordance with the instructions of the logistics department;
Qualifications and experience Qualifications and
skills required:
- BEPC or any equivalent diploma;
- Category B driving license, category D driving license is an asset;
Specific knowledge:
- Have an experience of at least 02 years in a similar position, experience with an NGO and / or an international agency would be a plus;
- Knowledge of the Red Cross / Red Crescent Movement;
- Stress resistance ;
- Patience, adaptability and flexibility (to a possible modification of the work schedule);
- Know how to respect safety rules, internal procedures.
- Mastery of the Highway Code and safety rules;
- Good knowledge of the city of Yaoundé and its surroundings.
