For our Cameroon National Office, we are looking for a
dynamic and committed Wildlife Law Enforcement Intern to help the Wildlife Law Enforcement department achieve
its objectives.

Duration: Three (03) months
Mission of the Department Cameroon, like all other countries in the Congo Basin, is facing unsustainable
exploitation of its biodiversity, mainly through poaching and illegal wildlife trade, leading to the disappearance of endangered wildlife species, environmental degradation, increased violence and conflict, etc. To help protect these iconic species such as elephants and great apes from poaching and illegal wildlife trade, WWF Cameroon is working with the government to implement its anti-poaching and law enforcement strategy, while prioritizing the well-being of indigenous people. WWF’s support aligns with its social policies, environmental and social safeguards, and most importantly, the network’s standards for supporting conservation law enforcement in protected areas. The recruitment of a Wildlife Law Enforcement Intern (WLEI) will provide valuable support to the existing Wildlife Law Enforcement team in Yaoundé, to ensure effective and timely implementation of the project activities. Key Functions Under the supervision of the Wildlife Law Enforcement Officer, and in close collaboration with the conservation team, the WLEI intern will support the implementation of the CCO’s law enforcement work, work closely with MINFOF lawyers to ensure effective judicial follow-up of wildlife cases in the courts; collect and analyze data on wildlife crime; liaise with prosecutors and relevant agencies, WWF field staff to facilitate the exchange of information on law enforcement efforts. He/she will compile and centralize judicial data and information on wildlife issues.
Main Duties and Responsibilities 1. Collect relevant law enforcement data from different workplaces and contribute to the updating of national law enforcement databases (legal database), ensuring that the information is complete, comprehensive and up-to-date. 2. Maintain regular communication with lawyers through emails and phone calls,monitor and evaluate their performance and provide them with
necessary assistance. This could also include field visits
to areas where law firms are established and engaging with
judicial authorities (magistrates, registrars, etc.) to ensure effective collaboration and
support.
3. Assist in the drafting and review of
essential administrative, technical and financial documents related to law enforcement support, such as terms of
reference, official correspondence, technical reports, payment requests
, etc.
4. Assist in the preparation and processing of various financial documents (
payment requests, budgets, purchase orders) to ensure the smooth running
of the law enforcement unit’s operations.
5. Assist the law enforcement team in its relations with the
Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, as well as other
key government institutions, to facilitate joint efforts against poaching and
illegal wildlife trade.
6. Provide administrative and logistical support to the Law Enforcement Unit
to ensure the successful organization of training and
capacity building workshops, meetings and field trips for
WWF team and partners.
7. Provide administrative support to the Wildlife Crime Hub Coordinator, assisting in the
preparation and execution of activities outlined in the Hub Implementation Plan
to support effective operations.
8. Undertake other activities deemed necessary by the line manager
to support the overall goals and objectives of the department.
Profile
Required Qualifications
o At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Law.
o At least six (06) months’ experience in a Law Firm.
o Experience in the field of law enforcement (anti-corruption, anti-poaching, wildlife law) is an advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies:
o Good communication skills both written and oral (English and French), adapted to the
need of the audience. o Good knowledge of criminal law, including wildlife
legislation and regulations , and ability to conduct legal analyses. o Team player, but also able to work with minimal supervision. o Good computer skills (MS Office, online research, etc.) and ability to manage law enforcement databases.
