Important announcement from Ukuzola: The Call for Solutions is open
to the community of innovators and social entrepreneurs
(Before you begin, please note that if you are an English speaker, you can answer in English)
Ukuzola is a start-up house dedicated to social and climate transitions!
Our mission (in one sentence)
Giving entrepreneurs from the South an equal opportunity to also address the social and environmental challenges of our shared world
Why it matters Today, 90% of social and environmental innovations in the South fail within 5 years .
A net loss for the planet and an accumulated delay for the entire planet!
The reason: the financial precariousness of the project leaders, which forces them to take on one or more small jobs, alongside their project, to survive on a daily basis.
It is therefore imperative to give these young people a hand and the opportunity to participate in shaping another world. So that these young people can take ownership of our common future and give it a positive dynamic.
💪 IT’S TIME TO ACT.
What do we do?
Ukuzola is taking up this challenge by being the first start-up house in Central Africa : a coliving that brings together, in a sustainable and continuous way, social and environmental entrepreneurs who are also determined to work to change the world. Our motto: in 2050, there will not be 250 million refugees, there will be 250 million partners to adapt together on this shared earth.
To do this, Ukuzola is making a bold bet: taking on the financial constraints of these entrepreneurs, thereby creating a place dedicated to the accomplishment of impactful projects for this segment of the world’s population. Ukuzola is therefore
– a supportive coliving which takes care of accommodation, catering, transport
– a monthly bonus for young people, to allow them to truly devote 100% of their time to their impact projects
– support in entrepreneurship with a partner incubator
– support in gender policy and CSR policy for projects aligned with sustainable development objectives
– colivers who take ownership of this space and participate in the local and international ecosystem of changemakers. Particular attention will be paid to the diversity of project leaders. 60% of the projects supported will be led by a woman.
So, where are we?
The pilot co-living facility opened its doors in June 2023 in Yaoundé , Cameroon. Six spaces were created, including four reserved for women. Ukuzola is repeating the experience and opening six additional spaces. This year, 12 spaces are open in Cameroon (Yaoundé) and Congo (Pointe Noire).
We are looking for entrepreneurs who offer innovative solutions to solve social and environmental challenges in Cameroon and Congo.
Ukuzola is a pioneering initiative in Central Africa that combines a solidarity co-living space for impact entrepreneurs with the organization of Arbre à Palabres, a space for dialogue on climate justice. Located in Yaoundé, Cameroon, the co-living space offers young social and environmental entrepreneurs comprehensive support, including housing, meals, transportation, and a monthly stipend. This allows beneficiaries to fully dedicate themselves to their projects without having to seek other income. The projects supported are geared toward solving social and environmental challenges, in line with sustainable development goals. Ukuzola pays particular attention to gender equality, with 60% of places reserved for women. In parallel, Ukuzola organizes Arbre à Palabres, a citizen dialogue platform dedicated to climate justice. This event brings together citizens, experts, and decision-makers to co-construct solutions adapted to local climate issues. The goal is to encourage the active participation of Cameroonians in developing inclusive policy recommendations that meet the needs of the most vulnerable communities. This initiative also aims to create a citizen monitoring network to ensure the implementation of recommendations and encourage sustainable climate action. In this way, Ukuzola aims to strengthen the engagement of young people and local communities in the fight against climate change and promote sustainable solutions globally.
We have exciting news to share with you! At Ukuzola, we are passionate about supporting entrepreneurs working for positive change. If you have an innovative and impactful idea, now is the time to take action. If you’re between the ages of 23 and 35 and ready to fully dedicate yourself to your passion without sacrificing your financial well-being, this call is for you! This call is for anyone who has their own project, or who is thinking about how to contribute to improving the lives of women or addressing social and environmental challenges in Cameroon.
Ukuzola is committed to providing a space where breathing, creating, and innovating isn’t a luxury, but a daily reality. By joining our program, you’ll benefit from supportive co-living, a monthly stipend, and, most importantly, a support network of dedicated mentors to help you dive full-time into your project.
