VACANCY: Medical team leader needed at International Medical Corps

The main responsibilities

The main responsibilities of the medical team leader will be to manage the day-to-day running of the activities of the WHO project funded by the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) which aims at the consolidation of peace and the reduction of violence in communities in the Far North region, through inclusive health and social interventions. Through this project, International Medical Corps will improve the capacity of health care facilities through training, provision of medical equipment and supplies, and staffing. Provide free access to quality health care to the population through trained and motivated staff with appropriate equipment and finally reduce morbidity and mortality from common diseases.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Program management

  • Work closely with the Far North Field Coordinator, senior management and field teams to determine the operational needs of the medical and nutritional program under the grant
  • Work closely with the program teams and the regional public health delegation to organize and conduct the training of healthcare staff and ensure that all training taken is correctly applied;
  • Ensure clinical quality in the implementation of activities and services to service providers in accordance with the ethics and values ​​of International Medical Corps as well as the protocols of the Ministry of Health
  • Liaise with the Field Coordinator to provide support and ensure consistency of approach and delivery to project sites
  • Work with program team and M&E teams to design and implement a reporting system to monitor and evaluate WHO/PBF project goals, indicators and outcomes as well as trends in mortality and morbidity
  • Support the district in supervising trained health facility staff
  • Work with the Program Coordinator, Field Coordinator and program teams to plan future program directions in terms of beneficiary needs, new sites and activities


  • Work with field teams and logistics to procure program supplies in a timely manner to ensure adequate supply based on site consumption while adhering to national drug protocols and program budgets
  • Support healthcare facilities to analyze pharmacy reports to monitor medication consumption by site
  • Regularly inform the field coordinator, the program director and the program teams of the progress of the project deliverables and the progress of the indicators according to the objectives
  • Maintain flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as needed

2. Representation

  • Attend health coordination meetings, as well as other program coordination meetings such as program management meetings (PMTs) and pipeline meetings that are relevant to program monitoring
  • Represent the organization at task force meetings, assessment missions, regional coordination meetings, WHO coordination meetings, INGO field coordination meetings



  • Liaise with the health district office on project-related matters to ensure programmatic accountability
  • Ensure maximum visibility of WHO within the humanitarian community
  • Lead site reporting and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of information provided, as well as the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Contribute to the creation of a positive image and the overall credibility of the organization, in particular through the application of the code of conduct, ethics, values ​​and the point of view of the organization vis-à-vis internal and external actors



3. Human Resources Management

  • Assist in the selection and training of volunteer health personnel, in coordination with district health services;
  • Supervise health staff on a daily basis to ensure smooth and efficient project implementation

4. Security

  • Ensures application and compliance of security protocols and policies

5. Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and among beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps

REQUIRED PROFILE

  • Hold a Doctorate in Medicine or any other equivalent diploma
  • A diploma in public health is a great asset
  • Justify a strong clinical professional experience of at least three years in a field similar to that of IMC
  • Minimum of three years of experience required in emergency health programs
  • Proof of international NGO professional experience preferably of at least two years in site management (logistics, administration and finance, partnership, etc.)
  • Demonstrate a good ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions independently
  • Extremely flexible and able to deal with stressful situations and frustrations
  • Strong proven leadership abilities are required
  • Strong negotiation, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to speak French and English
  • Updated MOH Registration License to Practice Medicine in Cameroon
  • Have a good ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment
  • Master office software (Microsoft Office)
  • Being bilingual (English French) is an asset
  • Be of Cameroonian nationality and aged 45 at most
