WCS is a non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1895 with the aim of safeguarding wild species and spaces around the world through scientific research, conservation actions, education and awareness on the values of nature, training of conservation professionals and the development of numerous management tools in partnership with other organizations in the world of conservation.
Through its involvement in more than 350 projects, its presence in more than 60 countries and its contribution to the establishment of nearly 150 protected areas worldwide, WCS has brought together the ecological knowledge, cultural experiences and partnerships needed to enable cohabitation between wild species and habitats and local communities and reconcile biodiversity conservation and socio-economic development.
WCS has been present in Cameroon since 1988 and has contributed to the creation and management of many protected areas including the Mbam and Djerem National Park.Created in January 2000 with the technical assistance of WCS, the Mbam and Djerem National Park has benefited since 2003 from the services of a project executed and financed jointly by the Ministry of Forests and Wildlife and the Wildlife Conservation Society with the support of other donors among which: the Foundation for Environment and Development of Cameroon (FEDEC), USFWS, ECF, Hempel.As part of the strengthening of its management capacities, WCS is looking for the services of a Multi-Purpose Logistics Assistant.
MISSIONS
The Multi-Purpose Logistics Assistant will provide logistical support for the implementation of the WCS project in the Mbam Djerem National Park based in Mbakaou by ensuring the timely supply of products, materials and consumables necessary for the smooth running of the project.
Specifically, it will be responsible for identifying needs related to user services; procurement processes for equipment, materials, supplies and others; inventory management, logistics management, fleet management (vehicles, motorcycles, speedboats) movements and travel security. As such, he supervises the project’s logistics team (drivers, warehouse workers, security personnel) and must be able to provide immediate solutions to operational problems or solicit the right people for help.
Hierarchical position:
The Multi-Purpose Logistician Assistant will have as hierarchical superior the Project Director of the PNMB and as technical referent the Logistics Officer.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
The list is non-exhaustive and will evolve according to the organization’s priorities
- Manage purchases in accordance with WCS and donor procedures, including compliance with purchasing principles and the traceability of all purchases;
- Prepare purchase files and send to the finance department for payment to suppliers;
- Manage supplier data by ensuring that the list of suppliers is properly maintained (renewal, identification of new potential suppliers, tax file, etc.);
- Set up the price catalogue and ensure that it is updated regularly;
- Regularly update procurement tracking to keep requesters informed of the progress of their needs.
- Assists in mission preparation by providing equipment and rations for each mission.
- Manage base stocks while preventing stock-outs through the alert system and provide support to substation teams in this area.
- Ensure the archiving of documents related to logistics
- Plan, anticipate and organize the supply of various project items (rations, fuel, office equipment, camping equipment, etc.) of the PNMD teams and its antennas;
- Monitor WCS’s fleet and motorized fleet by ensuring that all vehicles and generators comply with maintenance and fuel plans and that documents are up to date;
- Monitor project equipment including maintenance, database updating, usage tracking and cost tracking (including satellite phone costs).
- Ensure the maintenance and rehabilitation of buildings in conjunction with contract technicians and other service providers.
- Process documents related to the execution of logistics operations (e.g. receipt of consumables, invoice verification), take appropriate action to resolve operational issues by escalating various issues to the supervisor;
- Collect and compile data, produce and/or contribute to reports (e.g. financial close, physical inventory, transportation performance) and ensure the accuracy of information in systems to enable informed decision-making;

SKILLS
- Bac +3 in Logistics / transport or any other related discipline;
- Have at least 02 (two) years of professional experience in a similar position;
- Good knowledge of the NGO sector and USFWS, European Union donor procedures etc. ;
- Experience with NGOs would be an asset;
- Applied knowledge of monitoring and budgeting methodologies and tools and fixed assets;
- Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint software;
- Flexible, autonomous and rigorous in the organization of work;
- Bilingual French/English.
Working conditions
- Position based in Mbakaou with travel to be planned according to the request of the Project Director and other sites of the park.
- Paid annual leave·
- One-year contract with the possibility of renewal based on the evaluation of the employee’s performance and the context of the project.
Required skills
- Knowledge: practical or theoretical knowledge, technical knowledge or specific procedures (e.g. knowledge of health and safety rules (individual and environmental).·
- Fluency in French (reading, writing, speaking) and fluency in English ·
- Negotiating and diplomatic skills
- Know-how: experiences or practices mastered (e.g. to lead and supervise a team) ·
- Ability to manage project logistics and supplies;
- Knowledge of the computer tool (Office Pack) ·
- Knowledge in stock management·
- Knowledge in personification of soft skills: skills and behaviours required (e.g. knowing how to manage stressful situations)·
- Knowing how to work in a team ·
- Be versatile ·
- Managing priorities ·
- Be flexible
