Director of Business Incubation and Acceleration Initiatives
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for directing the operations and programs of NexGen’s Business
Incubation Center and Acceleration Initiatives.
MAJOR DUTIES
• Develops and administers the business incubation programs and develops and coordinates business
accelerator initiatives or programs.
• Works closely with an advisory board to provide a range of support services and seeks innovative
funding mechanisms for clients. Also works in close collaboration with Industry, Government
partners and IPS LLC to drive Innovations.
• As an entrepreneurial hub, develops and implements cutting-edge programs to support new and
growing businesses with co-workspace, affordable office space, professional development, and a
wide array of mentors and opportunities.
• Establishes highly effective business incubation programs with robust value proposition metrics
grounded on industry best practices.
• Provides oversight and supervision of NexGen Startups, Developers Institute, NexGen Project Up
and NARL staff. NAARL provides access to a variety of equipment and technical assistance to
prototype or build items from a variety of materials using many techniques.
• Meets with potential clients and administers application, approval, and admissions processes;
coordinates services for business incubation and accelerator clients; advises clients in business
development, strategic planning, marketing, and other areas; monitors client progress toward
business goals; develops training for clients; researches and develops new programs and special
projects. Adheres to and operates the incubator and accelerator within the business standard of best
practices and the principle of client graduation to stimulate economic growth, business
sustainability, and a lasting and vibrant regional entrepreneurial ecosystem. Exhibits and maintains
a willingness to include professional growth with training and mentoring.
• Conducts community outreach programs to recruit new clients, mentors, and strategic partners;
organizes special events; makes presentations to a variety of community organizations, conferences,
and workshops; meets with business and community leaders to promote business incubation and

acceleration; provides support for location-neutral businesses; develops marketing materials.
• Coordinates with strategic stakeholders to enhance the entrepreneurial community; develops and
maintains an active advisory council; serves on NHIT committees and teams; creates partnerships
with local, regional, and state economic development organizations; attends regional and national
conferences and meetings to enhance knowledge and create partnerships.
• Manages the operations of the Enterprise Centers; negotiates, processes, and administers lease
agreements with clients and other organizations.
• Develops and implements a strategic plan for Enterprise Center operations with a clear focus on
metrics, including a minimum 80% occupancy rate for Enterprise Center.
• Directs the work of multiple employees, including making recommendations to hire, promote, and
discipline direct reports and conducting annual performance reviews of assigned staff.
• Participates in community programs on behalf of NexGen and IPS LLC and directing expected
community partner tasks as approved.
• Represents the NexGen to students, outside agencies, and community partners and colleges,
including departmental Advisory Committees, demonstrating cultural competency, diversity, and
inclusivity.
• Serves on NexGen committees and workgroups.
• Participates in business incubation professional development.
• Assist with grant proposals, pursue innovative opportunities, and oversee grant project initiatives.
• Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
• Knowledge of the best practices of business incubation/business accelerators and development
principles.
• Knowledge of investor access processes for seed and growth funding.
• Knowledge of marketing principles and practices.
• Knowledge of budget development and management principles.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The CEO of IPS LLC assigns work in terms of program goals and objectives. The supervisor reviews
work through conferences, reports, and observation of project activities.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include International Business Innovation Association (InBIA), best practices and university
and program policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in
application. This position develops center guidelines.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
• The work consists of varied duties in directing the operations of NexGen Enterprise Centers. The
unique needs of each client contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to direct the operations of the N e x G e n Enterprise Center.
Success in this position contributes to the success of new businesses in the community.
CONTACTS
• Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, business owners,
community leaders, Chamber of Commerce representatives, bankers, and members of the public.
• Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, to
negotiate matters, or to motivate or influence people.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Moderate mobility due to interaction with client companies, training, and community interactions.
• The work is typically performed in an office and meeting room.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
• This position has direct supervision over an Administrative Assistant, Makerspace Manager,
Makerspace staff, NexGen Startups, and the entire Developers Institute Cameroon Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a bachelor’s
degree (master’s degree preferred) in a course of study related to the occupational field.
• Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of NexGen
Programs and Projects to direct and coordinate work within the projects, usually interpreted to
require three to five years of related experience.
• Knowledge of, or willingness to acquire knowledge of, the business and entrepreneurial
development methodology known as Business Incubation, Business Accelerator, and Research Park
concepts including best practices.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license.
