JUNIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER – YAOUNDÉ – GIZ CAMEROON
DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFER
CALL FOR INTERNAL/EXTERNAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF A JUNIOR COMMUNICATION EXPERT FOR THE PROJECT PROMOTION OF GENDER TRANSFORMATION APPROACHES FOR STRENGTHENING THE RESILIENCE OF CIVIL SOCIETY IN CAMEROON, PARTICULARLY IN THE REGIONS OF NORTH-WEST AND SOUTH-WEST (SoCiG) OF THE DEUTSCHE GESELLSCHAFT FÜR INTERNATIONALE ZUSAMMENARBEIT (GIZ/SoCiG) GmbH BASED IN YAOUNDE.
- Context
To strengthen the social and economic participation of women, the objective of the Project (SoCiG) is “Civil society organizations committed to gender equality have made a more effective contribution to the equal social and economic participation of population of Cameroon, particularly in the North-West and South-West regions. “.
The project intervention areas are all of Cameroon (component I, Output 1), particularly the North-West and South-West (component II, Output 2 to 4). The project is deployed based on an approach to achieve four (04) Outputs:
- Output 1: The individual and organizational capacities of Cameroonian civil society organized and committed to gender equality have been strengthened with a view to greater participation in political dialogue.
- Output 2: The formats supported by civil society actors to modify gender roles, resolve conflicts or promote social cohesion in the North-West and South-West have been strengthened.
- Output 3: The resilience of the population of conflict-affected communities in the North West and South West has improved thanks to the involvement of civil society committed to gender equality.
- Output 4: The contribution of civil society actors to the holistic care of survivors of gender-based violence in the North West and South West has increased.
To this end, the Civil Society Gender Project (GIZ/SoCiG) is launching a call for applications for the recruitment of one (01) junior communications expert .
- Area of Responsibility and Responsibilities
In consultation with the project manager, the position holder will be responsible for the implementation of the European Union’s communication and visibility plan. He/she will also be responsible for contributions to the communication channels of the German Embassy, BMZ and GIZ.
Under the supervision of the project manager and in consultation with the communications manager within the GIZ regional office in Yaoundé, she has the following responsibilities:
External communication
- Develops communication concepts (digital communication concept, radio broadcasts for example) and the choice of types of publications and production (design, content, layout, printing, distribution);
- Ensures the implementation and monitoring of communication concepts, the choice of types of publications and the way of producing them;
- Produces different types of publications on field activities
- Ensures compliance with “corporate design” standards (quality control of product materials), in particular compliance and respect for communication and visibility rules within the framework of co-financing with the European Union, and the layout of all publications ;
- Ensures press relations for media coverage of events and activities in the field in collaboration with the communications managers of the partners and the Yaoundé Regional Office (BRY);
- Prepare press releases
- Ensures management of the design/production of publications and public relations materials (notepads, personalized folders, pens, roll ups, banners, etc.);
- Ensures quality control of communication from project components.
- Support the Project Manager in optimizing the layout of the various project reports;
- Contributes to the communication concept of the Good Governance Cluster
- Provides support for the organization of events within the Cluster.
Internal communication within the Cluster and GIZ Cameroon
- Development of colleagues’ capacities for communication tools;
- Ensures the exchange of information and news within the Good Governance Cluster;
- Ensures the visibility of the project in GIZ communication channels (BRY Newsletter, websites, Facebook wall, intranet, IDA Cameroun, Digital Digest) in close collaboration with colleagues responsible for the various technical files (writing articles for the newsletter and local GIZ brochures, GIZ website, etc.).
PROFILE REQUIRED
- Qualifications, skills and experience required
Qualifications
- Bac+3 in a specialty related to journalism, communication, sociology or similar qualification.
Professional experience
- Have at least 2 years of professional experience in a similar position;
- Experience within GIZ and development organizations is an asset.
Other knowledge/skills
- Have excellent writing, design and graphic skills
- Knowledge in the civil society sector;
- Have excellent management and organizational skills;
- Have excellent communication skills;
- Have a very good practical knowledge of the use of information and communication technologies;
- Willingness to develop innovative products for different target groups;
- Have a constructive attitude in the event of difficulties or conflicts;
- Respond positively to criticism and divergent points of view;
- High level of personal initiative;
- Ability to work under high pressure;
- Great flexibility and adaptability;
- Meticulousness and precision;
- Have a sense of aesthetics;
- Interest in the subject of gender equality;
- Have very good knowledge of French and English, written and spoken;
- Knowledge of German is an asset.
Availability date: 01.05.2024

Contract period: 2 years renewable
Duty station: Yaoundé
Internal classification of the position: Band 3T; under the hierarchical supervision of the Project Manager
