 Radio Operator needed at International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization with an exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence, and to provide assistance. The ICRC also strives to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening universal humanitarian law and principles.

The delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross for Central Africa in Yaoundé is seeking for its services one (01) qualified candidate to strengthen the team of the “Operation” department as indicated below:
Position: Radio Operator (M/F)
Position based in: Yaoundé
Type of contract: 12-month fixed-term contract (offer reserved exclusively for Cameroonian nationals) Starting date: As soon as possible
Main responsibilities
• Rigorously applies the radio room operating procedures;
· Ensures permanent contact with people moving in the field and takes all measures set out in the security rules and internal directives;
– Informs the Security Officer of all information related to security in the field:
Proactively ensures the flow of information concerning security issues
• Updates the register of movements in the field, messages transmitted, etc.;
– When necessary, holds briefings on issues relating to radio communications:
• Reports to his/her direct superior and/or the ICT Technician any anomaly on ICT equipment in accordance with ICRC standards;
• Under the supervision of his/her direct superior, ensures inventory by maintaining databases and regular physical checks, manages stocks during and at the end of his/her shift before handover
• Ensures the transmission/reception of telecommunications by radio; telephone or exchange of written messages in order to maintain contact with teams visiting the field; • Ensures permanent monitoring of the teams’ movements in the field through communication tools at his/her disposal and in accordance with the procedures set by the delegation.
Job requirements
– BTS in Telecommunications or computer network or any other similar diploma
• 3 years of professional experience in the humanitarian, security or telecommunications field
INTERNAT
– Mastery of ICT tools and common applications such as Microsoft Office TE Perfectly bilingual (French and English);
• Sense of confidentiality and discretion
; Good communication and analytical skills;
Good ability to work under pressure;
Good adaptability and flexibility:
Sense of organization, rigor, responsibilities and priorities; Good knowledge of the country and local topography.
