Safeguarding Assistants – SOS Children’s Villages
SOS Children’s Villages is an international social development organization that works to improve the living conditions of children deprived of parental care or at risk of losing it. Present in more than 132 countries, it carries out actions to protect children’s rights.
As part of strengthening its protection actions, the organization is recruiting two (2) Child and Youth Safeguarding Assistants for its programs in Douala and Mbalmayo.
MAIN MISSIONS:
The Child and Youth Safeguarding Assistant provides technical and operational support for the implementation of policies, strategies and activities related to the protection and safeguarding of children, young people and adults in the programs. He/She mobilizes staff and all local stakeholders around the issues of Child and Youth Safeguarding. He/She contributes to prevention, awareness raising, risk management, case monitoring and coordination with local stakeholders to ensure safe environments for all beneficiaries.
Key Responsibilities
Working in close collaboration with the National Child and Youth Safeguarding Coordinator and in synergy with the local safeguarding team, the Safeguarding Assistant has the following responsibilities: 1.
Prevention
Contribute to the preparation of the mapping of child protection actors at the local level;
Participate in the development of a local strategy for implementing the safeguarding policy; Identify and mitigate safeguarding risks; Prepare the required documentation for safeguarding audits. 2. Awareness & Training Raise awareness of the safeguarding policy among staff, children, young people and visitors; Organize training on safeguarding principles for stakeholders; Promote the integration of child protection in all programmatic activities. 3. Reporting and Incident Management Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents to the national team; Manage sensitive information with discretion and in accordance with procedures; Monitor the effectiveness of reporting mechanisms in place. 4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Coordination Monitor the implementation of mandatory requirements of the safeguarding policy; Evaluate the implementation of the safeguarding and mitigation action plan; Write regular reports on activities carried out; Participate in local child protection coordination networks;
Strengthen local partnerships for better community anchoring of safeguarding actions.
Support the implementation of the Child Safeguarding policy within intervention communities.
Desired profile
Qualifications and experience
Degree in social work, psychology, law, education or other related field;
Minimum 2 years experience in a similar role related to child protection; Good knowledge of the legal framework and international standards for child safeguarding; Demonstrated skills in training, awareness raising and community work. Key skills Discretion, integrity and ability to manage sensitive information; Excellent communication and organizational skills; Analytical mind and ability to work independently; Comfortable working in a team and in a multicultural environment.
