COUNTRY PROGRAM BACKGROUND:
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in underserved communities worldwide. By offering training and health care to local populations and medical assistance to people at highest risk, and with the flexibility to respond rapidly to emergency situations, International Medical Corps rehabilitates devastated health care systems and helps bring them back to self-reliance.
International Medical Corps proposes to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) in providing
integrated health (including mental health, reproductive health care), nutrition and food
security services for IDPs as well as host communities affected by conflict in the Mbengwi,
Njikwa, Fundong, Ako and Ndop Health Districts. Targeted beneficiaries will receive free
primary health care including mental health and reproductive health care, nutrition and food
security services through health facilities which will be identified in need according to the
need assessment report.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate the execution of health, and nutrition activities/projects on all sites in the northwest region supported by IMC.
- Developing and implementing healthcare programs and services for a specific geographic area
- Monitor the efficient use of medications procured under project funds and provide technical guidance and coordination of the procurement, storage and use of medication and medical commodities.
- Oversee the operation of healthcare facilities and clinics to ensure that they are meeting quality standards.
- Ensure collaboration and coordination between IMC activities and the MOH to ensure a parallel system is not created.
- Follow up and ensure health activities are carried out according to Cameroon MOH protocols.
- In collaboration with the Access officer, monitor the overall security and access environment for the smooth running of program activities.
- Represent IMC at all meetings including regional coordination meetings, cluster meetings and meetings with various stakeholders.
- Supervise staff performance and progress on IMCs mentorship and training processes.
- Identify and resolve any issues that may adversely affect the project and report accordingly to the field coordinator, program coordinator or medical director.
- Create and maintain good contact and networks with various stakeholders within and outside the project to ensure smooth running of all activities.
- Contribute to project proposal writing as well as concept note drafting to funders.
- Propose other areas of potential funding opportunities and prepare reports in this regard and submit them.
- Conducting research and writing reports
- Follow up on effective presence of staff at health facilities and monitor all clinical activities with respect of ethics and IMC standards.
- Ensure smooth progress of program/project indicators and make necessary amends to redirect indicator achievement.
- Ensure adequate timely availability of medications and supplies in quantity and of good quality.
- Manage the budget for healthcare services in their area to ensure that resources are used efficiently and effectively.
- Advocating for the needs of patients and the community
- Ensuring that healthcare services are accessible and affordable for everyone.
- Carry out any other tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Working relationships
Maintain frequent communication with the Field Coordinator to ensure health program
activities and objectives are communicated;
Work with Finance Manager and logistics Officer to ensure the coordination of IMC
Field Programs are smoothly implemented;
Represent IMC at health and nutrition working group meetings, donors filed visits and
assessment missions at regional level;
Interface with MoH counterparts, Public Health Regional Program Delegate to ensure
mutual understanding of programs;
Representation
Work with key donor staff to develop and maintain optimum programmatic
relationship
Ensure maximum visibility of the agency amongst NGO community;
Facilitate the production of technical reports and ensure the timeliness and accuracy of
information provided, as well ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information;
Contribute to the creation of positive image and overall credibility of the
organization, notably through the application of IMC’s mandate, ethics, values and
stand-point with regard to other actors
Skills and Experience:
Education: Medical Doctor/Master in public health or equivalent in a related
allied health
Minimum 5 years of management experience working in humanitarian or
development setting with minimum five years of INGO program management
experience at the same or similar position
Experience in medical emergency responses
Experience in managing Health and Nutrition programming, and experience
working in partnership with Ministry of Public Health, is strongly desired.
Proven ability to draft consistent proposals and write sound reports;
Previous experience managing programs financed by US government agencies,
ECHO,UN foundations and private donors a must, with previous experience in
competitive environments a plus.
Proven ability to manage projects to completion on time, within budget, and with
the anticipated results.(Minimum 2 years experiences)
Qualifications:
Language: Excellent command of English/Pidgin (Fluency in English oral and
written)
Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

Ensure compliance with security protocols and policies. Consider security
implications of programs, reviewing plans with teams and appropriate stakeholders.
Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the program and
organization, notably through adherence to the Code of Conduct and Ethics, including
compliance with anti-harassment, safeguarding and PSEA policies.
