We are looking for a dynamic and committed ”Congo Basin Forest Hub Coordinator”.

Mission of the department:
Forests have been at the heart of WWF’s work in the Congo Basin since its establishment
in the region, helping to move the forestry sector towards sustainability and transparency,
and working to end deforestation , helping to restore forests and implement
commitments to eliminate deforestation.
The global importance of the Congo Basin forests for nature, climate and people
is increasingly recognized. At the same time, deforestation rates
in the region are increasing. This is a new role that will enable WWF in the
Congo Basin to strengthen its leadership on Central Africa’s forests and accelerate progress
in achieving global forest practice outcomes in the Congo
Basin .
Main Functions:
The Congo Basin Forest Hub Coordinator will initiate, enable and support the implementation
of global forestry practices, forest-related practices in the
Congo Basin and the achievement of the results of global forestry practices. He will report to the
Director of Congo Basin Conservation and work closely with
the focal points of the five countries where WWF operates in the Congo Basin (Cameroon,
Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo and
Gabon). , as well as with the entire WWF network and external partners.
will require some regional and international travel.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
He/she will be responsible for:
 Establishing, operating and managing the Congo Basin Forestry Hub.
 Forge a cohesive regional forestry team across the Congo Basin countries,
promote and enable alignment, facilitate knowledge exchange on
key topics and collectively exploit opportunities.
 Act as an ambassador for WWF’s work on Congo Basin forests internally
and upon request externally. Act as the Region’s internal representative in
key forums: the Forest Practices Leadership Team, the
Carbon Finance and Markets Working Group and the Forests Forward Steering Group.
 Provide strategic oversight, thought leadership, technical guidance and
support to forestry programs across the Congo Basin, with a focus on
emerging opportunities for the Region, including climate finance, climate-
based solutions nature and commitment of the private sector.
 Help support capacity development across the region on
forestry issues by identifying capacity gaps and facilitating
access to resources, training programs and technical guidance to
enable local WWF teams to achieve their forest objectives.
 Lead the development of a regional strategy and approach for a new
generation of community forests that meet the needs of people, nature
and climate.

 




 

 Support the development of project proposals and resource mobilization based on
national and regional strategies.
 In consultation with national teams, develop and strengthen
strategic partnerships with regional institutions, NGOs, development partners,
private sector, donors and relevant implementing agencies.
 Identify regional policy opportunities and processes and support
effective coordination of regional and local WWF staff to engage.
 Develop and implement a work plan co-designed and agreed with Congo Basin office focal points , the regional team and wider WWF network
stakeholders , and provide timely reporting in relation to
to the
agreed objectives.
Qualifications, skills and competencies required:
Qualifications required:
 An advanced degree in forestry, natural sciences, environment or a
related field;
 At least seven (7) years of professional experience in the areas of forestry,
conservation, policy, environment, sustainable development,
forest-related agricultural product supply chains or deforestation;  Mastery of English and French;
 Knowledge of climate finance and carbon markets is an advantage.
Required skills and competencies:
 Proven ability to think strategically;
 Able to inspire and motivate others through strong communication
and influencing skills;
 Strong coordination and facilitation skills, and adept at
facilitating knowledge sharing, learning and
capacity building;
 Strong analytical and organizational skills and the ability to engage
effectively on multiple issues;
 Ability to work in a multicultural environment and in a
decentralized and multinational network (or program);  Excellent knowledge and passion for global forestry and conservation

Congo, relevant practice experts and Domains of Collective Action and Innovation (DACI).
External – As needed, act as a point of contact with regional
and global partners such as NGOs, regional institutions, private sector companies and
donor agencies.
This job description covers the main tasks and conveys the spirit of the type of tasks
